FLOOD CRISIS: 2 STATES AFFECTED, THOUSANDS DISPLACED

In just 2 weeks, floods have torn through communities across Gombe & Bauchi States. Families are homeless. Schools are closed. Hospitals can’t function.

Last week – Wuro Dole, Akko LGA, Gombe State
Over 500 households were submerged overnight. Homes collapsed. Farmlands washed away. Children lost their school. The community’s only water source was destroyed.

This week – Bara, Lomi and other villages in Kirfi LGA, Bauchi State
The disaster spread. Dozens more houses destroyed. Health facilities shut down. Families are now sleeping in the open, with no safe water or toilets.

The biggest fear now: Disease
With open defecation and no clean water, we’re staring at a possible cholera outbreak. WASH facilities are gone. Hospitals are closed. Vulnerable children and elderly are most at risk.

This is not just flooding. This is a health emergency.

Wuro Dole, Bara, Lomi these communities need urgent help:
1. Clean water + water purification
2. Emergency shelter
3. Mobile health teams + cholera prevention
4. Temporary WASH facilities to stop open defecation

MUNCKA HEALTH FACILITY PROJECT UPDATE

We’re excited to share that the renovation of Muncka Community Health Facility in Fika LGA, Yobe State is now *95% complete

What was once struggling is now being restored with dignity:
✅ Roofing repaired + new ceilings
✅ Fresh paint across the facility
✅ New beds for patients
✅ New toilet facilities constructed
✅ 24/7 solar-powered borehole for clean water
✅ Solar lights installed across the entire facility

Community ownership
After our project team’s visit and stakeholder meeting, the community’s WDC has been fully restored. They’ve stepped up and taken charge. The committee has now pledged to advocate directly to the Yobe State Primary Health Care Development Agency and Fika LGA PHC department for new health staff. Their goal: keep this facility alive for generations.

This is what sustainability looks like - communities leading their own solutions.

Muncka is rising. And we’re just getting started.

🚨 EMERGENCY APPEAL: WURO DOLE COMMUNITY IN CRISIS 🚨

Last night, a devastating windstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall struck Wuro Dole Community, located on the Gombe–Bauchi border in Akko LGA, Gombe State.

The destruction is heartbreaking:

Women, children, and elderly persons are currently exposed to harsh weather conditions, with many forced to sleep in open spaces without adequate shelter, food, or protection.

Rural Health Mission Nigeria team recently visited the Chana Health Facility to assess the impact and functionality of the healthcare services and interventions provided at the facility. The visit also included an assessment of the solar-powered borehole system installed by Rural Health Mission Nigeria to ensure sustainable access to clean water within the facility and the surrounding community.

As part of the visit, the team held productive meetings with community leaders and members of the Facility Management Committee (FMC) to discuss the progress, impact, and sustainability of the interventions provided by Rural Health Mission Nigeria. The discussions focused on strengthening community ownership, addressing challenges, and identifying ways to further improve healthcare service delivery within the community.

The assessment provided an opportunity for the team to engage with healthcare workers and community members on the successes and challenges experienced since the interventions were introduced. The solar-powered borehole continues to play a vital role in improving water access, sanitation, and overall healthcare service delivery at the facility.

Rural Health Mission Nigeria remains committed to strengthening rural healthcare systems through sustainable interventions that improve the lives of vulnerable communities by providing better healthcare infrastructure, clean water access, and community support services.

We appreciate the commitment and cooperation of the Chana community, healthcare workers, community leaders, and Facility Management Committee members toward ensuring quality healthcare delivery for all.

Project Update from Muncika Community, Fika LGA Yobe State

We are excited to share a major milestone from our ongoing intervention in Muncika community, where Rural Health Mission Nigeria continues to improve access to essential health services and infrastructure.

24/7 Solar Power Installed
The health facility is now fully powered with a solar system, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply. This means healthcare workers can provide services at any time of the day or night, improving emergency response and overall quality of care.

Clean Water for All
A solar-powered borehole has been successfully installed and is now operational. Both the health facility and the wider community can access safe, clean water significantly improving hygiene, reducing waterborne diseases, and supporting better health outcomes.

Sanitation Facilities Near Completion
Construction of improved toilet facilities is currently at 85% completion. Once finalized, this will further enhance sanitation standards at the facility, creating a safer and more dignified environment for patients and staff.

Impact So Far
This project is already transforming lives strengthening healthcare delivery, promoting hygiene, and restoring dignity within the community.

We remain committed to supporting underserved communities with sustainable solutions that make a real difference.

MUNCHIKA COMMUNITY WATER PROJECT UPDATE

Great news from Munchika

Work is now ongoing to connect our borehole directly to the health facility and extend safe water access to surrounding households. Our plumber is currently laying pipes from the borehole to the facility to ensure clean, reliable water for patients, staff, and the community.

Why this matters:
1. For the health facility: Clean water means safer deliveries, infection prevention, and better care for mothers and children.
2. For the community: Reduced distance to fetch water, especially for women and girls. More time for school, work, and family.
3. For all of us Water is life. This is one more step toward healthier, stronger communities in Borno.

We thank the community leaders, volunteers, and partners supporting this work. We’ll keep you updated as we progress.

Rural Health Mission Nigeria Transforms FACILITY IN Munchika Community, Fika LGA, Yobe State.

For years, over 10,000 residents of Munchika community in Fika LGA lived without access to a standard Primary Health Care facility. Women walked long distances for antenatal care. Children fell sick from unsafe water. Open defecation was common, putting the entire community at risk of cholera and other preventable diseases.

Today, that story is changing.

Rural Health Mission Nigeria stepped in, and the progress so far has been remarkable:

Solar-powered boreholes: Construction is now almost complete. Soon, Munchika will have reliable access to clean, safe water all year round no more depending on unsafe streams or walking miles under the sun.
Standard toilet facilities: We have provided modern, hygienic toilets to end open defecation and promote dignity, especially for women, girls, and school children.
Foundation for better health: With water and sanitation in place, we’re laying the groundwork for stronger PHC services. A healthy community starts with clean water and safe sanitation.

What’s next? We remain committed to working with the people of Munchika, the Fika LGA authorities, and our partners to ensure a fully functional PHC facility becomes a reality.

To our donors, volunteers, and supporters thank you. You are the reason Munchika’s story is changing from “without” to “within reach.”

Together, we’re building healthier rural communities, one step at a time.
