FG Strengthens Pharma Industry to Drive Medicines Security.

In a bold move to reaffirm its commitment to securing Nigeria's pharmaceutical landscape, NIPRD in partnership with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), with support from the World Bank Group under the IMPACT Project, recently concluded a technical support/capacity building engagement with indigenous pharmaceutical manufacturers on “Ensuring Medicines Quality – Advanced Insights into WHO Prequalification."

The initiative is designed to position local manufacturers for WHO Prequalification — a critical global benchmark that unlocks access to international markets for medicine procurement.

The outcomes are transformational, with Nigerian manufacturers moving from uncertainty to firm commitment toward global standards.

NIPRD hosted a top management delegation from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), as part of efforts to strengthen research collaboration and academic partnerships. The visit included a guided tour of NIPRD's laboratory facilities and key research equipment, providing first hand insight into the Institute's technical expertise, infrastructure and research capacity.

Discussions focused on identifying areas of mutual interest and exploring opportunities for joint research initiatives, laying the groundwork for a research-driven Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This engagement amongst others, reflects a shared commitment to advancing scientific innovation.

The National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) proudly joins the global community in observing World Immunization Week 2026.

Vaccines represent one of the most transformative public health interventions in human history — eradicating diseases, reducing childhood mortality, and protecting entire populations from preventable illness.

Yet millions remain unreached. This week serves as a timely reminder of the collective responsibility we bear to ensure that the benefits of immunization reach every individual, regardless of geography or circumstance.

As Nigeria's foremost pharmaceutical research institution, NIPRD remains steadfast in advancing the science that underpins safe, efficacious, and accessible vaccines for all.

We reaffirm our dedication to research, innovation, and partnership.

Glad to have the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, deliver the keynote address, and to declare open the week-long SPARK Africa Translational Research Boot Camp in Abuja, Nigeria.

Whilst delivering a thought-provoking welcome address, Dr Obi Adigwe, Director-General of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), challenged Scientists to remain courageous and never cower in the face of adversity, and to resist hiding behind titles and accolades that distance them from society. He emphasized that the true worth of science lies in its translation into tangible benefits for humanity. Translational science, the bridge between discovery and application, must become our rallying cry. According to Adigwe, it is not enough to publish papers in prestigious journals or to accumulate honours, rather, it is solving the problems that plague our communities by developing vaccines, renewable energy solutions, sustainable agriculture, and equitable healthcare systems.
