The Rivers State Government has taken significant steps to strengthen healthcare delivery and security infrastructure as part of its commitment to the wellbeing, security and prosperity of the people of the state.

Yesterday, the state inaugurated a new General Hospital and an upgraded Neuropsychiatric Hospital with a 100-bed Rehabilitation Centre in Rumuigbo.

The healthcare projects are expected to bring quality medical services closer to the people while strengthening the state’s capacity to respond to mental health and substance abuse challenges.

Speaking on the significance of the projects, His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara (Sir Siminalayi Fubara), reaffirmed his commitment to building a healthcare system that provides hope and improves the wellbeing of residents.

In a separate development, the state also inaugurated the rehabilitated Nigerian Air Force Base runway in Port Harcourt, further reaffirming its partnership with the Armed Forces and commitment to strengthening security across Rivers State.

The rehabilitated runway is expected to support security operations and contribute to the protection of Nigeria’s critical economic assets.

These projects reflect the administrations’s broader vision of building a state where investments in healthcare and security work together to create an environment in which people can thrive.

Strengthening Early Childhood Development (ECD) requires coordinated action across health, education, nutrition, social protection, and public finance.

To support this, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), in collaboration with the World Bank and Human Capital Development (HCD) Nigeria, convened a regional capacity-building workshop for Commissioners for Health, Budget and Economic Planning, and Women Affairs from the North Central states.

The workshop focused on strengthening state-level understanding of ECD and supporting the development of a regional framework to guide planning, budgeting, and implementation across the North Central region. The engagement is currently continuing in Kaduna with commissioners from the North West region as part of the broader effort to strengthen ECD coordination and implementation across Nigeria.

The Ogun State Government has secured a $250 million investment from Pure Dairy Herd for the development of a large-scale dairy farm in Itoro, Yewa South Local Government Area.

The investment is part of the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s efforts to expand domestic milk production, strengthen the livestock value chain, and attract private investment into agriculture.

The development was disclosed by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Bolu Owotomo, during a community engagement between the investors and residents of Itoro at the Palace of the Onitoro of Itoro, Oba Nathaniel Fasina.

The proposed dairy farm is expected to have an initial capacity of about 10,000 dairy cows, making it one of the largest integrated dairy production facilities in the country. The project is projected to generate employment, increase local milk production, and stimulate economic activity across the dairy value chain.

Its implementation is also expected to contribute to the development of Nigeria’s dairy ecosystem by supporting livestock production, milk processing, employment generation, and related supply chain activities.

The investment underscores the role of subnational governments in creating the conditions for private capital to support strategic sectors of the economy, particularly agriculture, where increased domestic production and value addition remain critical to food security, employment, and economic diversification.

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum convened a Pre-Validation Breakfast Meeting with representatives of Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Development Partners, and other key stakeholders as part of the States Agribusiness Investment Programme (SAIP) Rice Helpdesk.

The meeting reviewed the findings from an assessment of the rice value chain across Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States, helping to validate the evidence, strengthen the analysis, and identify opportunities for collaboration before the reports are finalised.

Through this process, the SAIP Rice Helpdesk is supporting more targeted interventions and stronger partnerships to improve productivity, investment readiness, and coordination across the region’s rice sector.
