ISMPH was at the Power of the Purse Summit today, a full day built around one theme: Your Purse, Your Power, Your Future.

Women from all walks of life sat down with financial experts, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to talk budgeting, saving, investing, and building income that lasts. Real conversations about the barriers that keep women financially dependent, and real strategies for breaking through them.

Health can't just live in a manifesto for four years and then disappear.

That was the message from our Executive Director, Chief Moji Makanjuola MFR NIPR, at Nigeria Health Watch's Breakfast Dialogue on Health as a Political Issue, ahead of Nigeria's 2027 elections.

She had a direct challenge for health journalists: stop stopping at the promise. Ask about the budget behind it. Ask what got implemented. Ask what changed for people.

Her call to action was clear. CSOs and media need to work together, and newsrooms need correspondents dedicated to tracking these commitments, not just covering the launch event and moving on. And the stories can't all come from Abuja. The real test of any health policy is what it looks like in a community that never makes the news.

The panel also heard from Dr Murtala Muhammad Bagana (Niger State Commissioner for Health) and Dr Gafar Alawode (CEO, DGI Consult), who spoke to what worked and what didn't after the 2023 elections, and what has to be different this time.

World Humanitarian Day is here.

Every year, humanitarian workers show up for people in crisis, often at great personal risk. This year's theme is a reminder that solidarity starts local. Strong communities, strong health systems, strong response.

Nigeria spends about 6% of its GDP on federal health expenditure. The WHO recommends 15%.

That gap shows up everywhere. Over 70% of health spending in Nigeria comes straight out of citizens' pockets. Families choose between treatment and rent. Primary healthcare centres run without basic supplies. And Universal Health Coverage by 2030 gets harder to reach every year funding stays this low.

The NHIA Act of 2022 made health insurance mandatory. But mandates need money behind them, especially the Vulnerable Group Fund meant to cover Nigerians who can't afford premiums.

Closing this gap means healthcare decided by need, not by who can afford to pay.

FG has launched a National Agricultural Mechanisation Policy and Investment Strategy to boost food sovereignty and cut Nigeria's reliance on food imports.

Announced by Agriculture Minister Senator Abubakar Kyari in Abuja, the plan covers the full value chain, from land prep to storage and logistics, and includes 2,000 tractors already being deployed nationwide. ISMPH's Executive Director, Chief Moji Makanjuola MFR NIPR, moderated the dialogue.

At the maiden Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC 2026), our Executive Director, Chief Mrs. Moji Makanjuola, MFR, FNIPR, served as Co-Chairman alongside her role as NAWOJ Board Chairperson.

Her message was direct: women carry the heaviest cost of insecurity in Nigeria, from displacement to gender-based violence, yet remain underrepresented at the tables where peace and security decisions get made.

She called for real partnership between NAWOJ and Nigeria's security agencies: the police, DSS, NSCDC, immigration, customs, and the armed forces, to build early warning systems, capacity-building programmes, and community-based security initiatives that put women at the center, not the margins.

Peace that's negotiated with women lasts longer than peace negotiated for them.
