7 EARLY SIGNS YOU NEED TO SEE A PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Many people wait until the pain becomes unbearable before seeking help. The truth is, early intervention often leads to faster recovery, better outcomes, and can even prevent long-term complications.

Watch out for these warning signs:

✅ Persistent pain that doesn't improve after a few days or weeks.
✅ Stiffness or reduced movement in your neck, back, shoulder, knee, or other joints.
✅ Muscle weakness affecting your daily activities.
✅ Poor posture or noticeable changes in body alignment.
✅ Pain during everyday activities such as walking, climbing stairs, lifting, or exercising.
✅ Frequent headaches or neck pain related to muscle tension or poor posture.
✅ Difficulty recovering after an injury, surgery, or illness.

Physiotherapy is not just for athletes or people recovering from surgery. It plays a vital role in preventing injuries, reducing pain, restoring movement, improving strength and balance, and helping you return to the activities you love.

Don't ignore what your body is trying to tell you. The earlier you seek professional care, the better your chances of a full recovery.

TEXT NECK: Is Your Phone Hurting Your Neck?

Looking down at your phone for long periods can place excessive stress on your neck and spine, leading to neck pain, headaches, shoulder stiffness, and poor posture.

The good news? It's preventable!

1. Hold your phone at eye level.
2. Take movement breaks every 20–30 minutes.
3. Stretch and strengthen your neck and upper back.
4. Maintain good posture throughout the day.

Small daily habits can protect your spine and keep you pain-free.

💬 How many hours do you spend on your phone each day? Let us know in the comments!

THE DANGER OF NORMALIZING PAIN

"I thought it was just part of getting older."

"I've lived with it for years."

"It only hurts when I walk, climb stairs, bend, or lift."

These are statements I hear almost every day in the clinic. The worrying part is not the pain itself—it's how comfortable people have become living with it.

Pain is your body's warning system. It is a message, not a personality trait. When you silence that message with painkillers alone or simply "manage" it without finding the cause, the underlying problem often continues to progress.

That nagging back pain may be changing the way you stand and walk. That shoulder pain could gradually reduce your strength and mobility. That knee pain you ignore today may eventually stop you from enjoying the activities you love.

Many people seek help only when they can no longer sleep comfortably, work efficiently, pray without discomfort, or play with their children. By then, recovery is often more difficult than it needed to be.

One of the biggest misconceptions is believing that pain is a normal consequence of aging. It isn't.

Growing older is normal. Persistent pain is not.

As physiotherapists, our job is not merely to reduce pain. We identify why it exists, restore normal movement, improve strength and function, and help prevent the problem from returning.

Don't wear your pain like a badge of honour. Don't wait until your body forces you to stop.

The earlier the assessment, the better the outcome.

Your body whispers before it screams. Listen while it's still whispering.

📍If pain has become your "normal," it's time to change that normal. Book a professional physiotherapy assessment today.

Lumbar Spondylosis: Not Just “Ordinary Back Pain”

One of the most common complaints I see in clinic is persistent low back pain that people have learned to live with — until it starts affecting sleep, walking, or even simple daily tasks. In many of these cases, the underlying issue is lumbar spondylosis.

Lumbar spondylosis refers to age-related wear and tear affecting the structures of the lower spine — the intervertebral discs, facet joints, and surrounding ligaments. It is not a disease in isolation, but a degenerative process that can present in different ways depending on the structures involved.

Clinically, patients may report: • Dull, aching low back pain (often worse after prolonged sitting or standing)
• Morning stiffness or reduced spinal flexibility
• Pain that radiates to the buttocks or thighs
• Occasional numbness or tingling if nerve roots are irritated

It is important to understand that not all lumbar spondylosis is symptomatic. Some individuals have significant degenerative changes on imaging but minimal pain, while others with mild findings may have severe symptoms. This is why clinical assessment remains more valuable than imaging alone.

From a physiotherapy standpoint, management is not about “resting the back” — in fact, prolonged inactivity often worsens the condition.

Effective treatment focuses on: • Targeted exercise therapy to improve core stability and spinal support
• Manual therapy to reduce stiffness and improve mobility
• Postural re-education, especially for individuals with sedentary lifestyles
• Pain modulation strategies where necessary
• Gradual return to functional activities

If you’ve been experiencing persistent low back pain, don’t normalize it or mask it with medication alone. Early physiotherapy intervention can significantly improve outcomes and prevent progression.

Facial palsy is a condition that causes weakness or paralysis of the face due to a problem with the Facial Nerve. It can affect how you smile, speak, or even close your eyes.

There are two main types:
🔹 Facial nerve palsy (Upper Motor Neuron lesion – UMNL)
Often linked to conditions like stroke, it typically affects the lower part of one side of the face, while the forehead is usually spared.
🔹 Bell’s palsy (Lower Motor Neuron lesion – LMNL)
This is the most common type. It comes on suddenly and affects the entire side of the face, including the forehead. It is often associated with viral inflammation, commonly linked to Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1.

Common symptoms may include:
Facial drooping
Difficulty closing the eye
Drooling
Reduced facial expression

Early treatment, including medications like Prednisolone and proper eye care, is very important. Physiotherapy also plays a key role through guided facial exercises and muscle retraining.

The good news: Most cases of Bell’s palsy recover well within a few months.

However, sudden facial weakness should never be ignored — always seek medical attention immediately to rule out serious conditions like stroke.
