🦠 HEPATITIS B: YOU CAN FEEL HEALTHY AND STILL HAVE THE VIRUS.
Did you know that a person can have hepatitis B for years without experiencing noticeable symptoms?
Hepatitis B is a viral infection that affects the liver. Some people recover completely, while others develop chronic infection that can lead to serious liver complications.
Here are 5 important things you should know:
1️⃣ No symptoms doesn't mean no infection.
Many people living with chronic hepatitis B feel perfectly healthy. You cannot determine your hepatitis B status simply by how you feel.
2️⃣ Hepatitis B is not spread through casual contact.
You cannot contract hepatitis B through hugging, shaking hands, sharing meals, or sitting beside someone who has the infection.
It can spread through infected blood, sexual contact, sharing contaminated sharp instruments, and from mother to baby during childbirth.
3️⃣ A positive HBsAg result needs proper evaluation.
HBsAg is a marker of current hepatitis B infection. A positive result does not automatically tell you how active the virus is or how much liver damage has occurred.
Further evaluation may include liver function tests, HBV DNA testing, and other hepatitis B markers.
4️⃣ Hepatitis B can be prevented.
Vaccination provides effective protection against hepatitis B. Testing can help determine whether someone is infected, immune, or susceptible.
5️⃣ Early detection matters.
Identifying hepatitis B early allows appropriate medical assessment, monitoring, and treatment when necessary.
💡 THE IMPORTANT LESSON
Don't wait for yellow eyes, abdominal swelling, or other symptoms before thinking about your liver health.
Knowing your hepatitis B status is an important step in protecting yourself and others.
