Today, as we commemorate World Hypertension Day 2026, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State Branch, joins the global community in raising awareness on the prevention and control of high blood pressure.

Hypertension remains one of the leading causes of heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and preventable deaths worldwide. Sadly, many people live with high blood pressure without knowing their status until complications arise.

This year’s theme, “Controlling Hypertension Together,” reminds us that tackling hypertension requires collective action from individuals, families, communities, healthcare professionals and government institutions.

We encourage everyone to:
• Know your blood pressure numbers
• Adopt healthy lifestyle habits
• Reduce salt intake and avoid harmful substances
• Exercise regularly and manage stress
• Seek routine medical checkups and adhere to treatment where necessary

Together, we can reduce the burden of hypertension, prevent avoidable complications and build a healthier society.

Happy World Hypertension Day.

Today, we celebrate the incredible women who serve as the backbone of our families and the heart of our communities

Guilded by the spirit of Luke 6:38, we embrace this year's theme: "Give to Gain". This theme serves as a powerful reminder that when we invest in the well-being of women, we are investing in the future of our nation.

By providing our sister's with the support, protection and opportunities they deserve, we create a ripple effect of progress. As we lift them, we lift ourselves, for in giving, we truly gain.

Happy International Women's Day once again.
