Do you know the rarest medical condition on earth?
It is called Progeria!
Progeria is one of the rarest and most striking medical conditions known in medicine. It is also known as Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome. It affects about 1 in 18 million people worldwide.
Children with progeria usually appear normal at birth, but soon after birth, they begin to show signs of rapid aging within the first couple of years.
They often look like elderly individuals while still very young.
Most children that are affected by this dosease don’t live past their teens, and only a few of them have reached their early 20s.
In fact, the oldest known patient lived to be only 43.
The major reason why we age gradually is because our cells and tissues have the ability to repair themselves properly. But people suffering from Progeria don’t have this ability. Their body’s cells and tissues can’t repair themselves properly, thereby sp*eding up the aging process dramatically for them.
This is the reason this disease is one of the most heartbreaking and rarest conditions known in medicine.
So far, there’s no known cure for this disease. Although, researches have been going on for years to see how gene editing can reverse this condition, but the results haven’t been successful enough to the point of testing it in humans.
