YOUR PHONE CAN GET LOST. YOUR LAPTOP CAN CRASH. BUT MUST YOUR MEMORIES DISAPPEAR TOO?

Think about all those pictures of your children, wedding, birthdays, business transactions, and important documents on your phone.

Now imagine losing everything today!

No backup.
No second copy.
Nothing to recover.

Omo, that pain is avoidable!

For Day 13 of our Cybersecurity Awareness Month campaign, GWDGI is asking you one important question:

DOES YOUR DATA HAVE A BACKUP PLAN?

Here are 5 things to do today:

📌 Back up your files regularly.
📌 Save copies in the cloud or on an external drive.
📌 Use strong passwords to protect your backups.
📌 Test your backups to be sure they work.
📌 Update your backup plan as your files grow.

Don't wait until your phone gets missing or your laptop refuses to come on before you remember your precious files.

BACK UP TODAY. RECOVER TOMORROW. STAY SECURE.

👇 Be honest: Have you backed up your important photos and documents recently?

SOMEONE COULD BE LEARNING MORE ABOUT YOU ONLINE THAN YOU REALISE!

Your pictures. Your location. Your phone number. Your private messages. Even details about where you shop or how you spend your money.

My people, who has access to your data?

Sometimes, we make it easy by sharing too much information, leaving our privacy settings open or granting apps permissions we never stop to question.

Oya, let's protect ourselves!

✅ Don't share your full personal details unnecessarily.

✅ Check who can see your posts, photos and location.

✅ Review the permissions you give apps.

✅ Avoid sensitive transactions on unsecured public Wi-Fi.

✅ Think before you post. Information shared online can be copied, saved or forwarded.

And please, don't post every detail of your life just because social media gives you the space to do so.

YOUR PRIVACY IS POWER. KEEP IT SAFE.

GRANDMA, PLEASE STOP! DON'T POST YOUR GRANDCHILDREN'S PICTURES ONLINE AGAIN!

READ THESE 10 HIDDEN DANGERS BEFORE YOU POST THAT CUTE CHILDREN'S PHOTO!

Dear parents and grandparents,

We know you're proud of your children and grandchildren. Their smiles brighten your day. Their funny moments make you laugh. You want the world to see how beautiful they are.

But please, let's pause and think.

Does everyone on the internet need to see your child?

Some parents share pictures of children in diapers, bathing, sleeping, crying, or wearing little or no clothing.

Others post their school uniforms, school names, birthdays, locations, and daily routines.

What feels like an innocent family memory to you may become material for misuse by someone with harmful intentions.

🚨 10 HIDDEN DANGERS OF POSTING CHILDREN'S PICTURES ONLINE

1️⃣ AI-generated abuse: Images can be manipulated using AI to create fake, sexualised pictures of children.

2️⃣ Predatory behaviour: People with harmful intentions may collect children's photographs for exploitative purposes.

3️⃣ Loss of privacy: Your child cannot fully control who sees, saves, or shares their image.

4️⃣ Location exposure: School signs, uniforms, and landmarks may reveal where a child studies or spends time.

5️⃣ Digital impersonation: Stolen photographs can be used to create fake accounts or impersonate a child.

6️⃣ Identity theft: Names, birthdays, and other personal details can help criminals build a profile of your child.

7️⃣ Bullying and humiliation: Pictures shared today may be copied, altered, or used to embarrass a child later.

8️⃣ Unwanted redistribution: A photograph shared with friends can travel far beyond your intended audience.

9️⃣ Family-targeted scams: Publicly available details can help criminals create convincing stories to deceive relatives.

🔟 A digital footprint without consent: Your child may grow up discovering that intimate or embarrassing moments were published before they could understand or agree to them.

🛡️ WHAT SHOULD WE DO INSTEAD?

✅ Make children's privacy the default. Choose not to publish identifiable pictures of them on public social media.

✅ Never post n**e, bathing, diaper-only, or otherwise intimate images of children.

✅ Share family memories privately with trusted relatives when appropriate, while remembering that private messages can also be copied or forwarded.

✅ Keep children's school details, addresses, routines, and live locations off public posts.

✅ Ask parents for permission before sharing pictures of their children. As children grow, listen to their wishes and respect their right to say no.

DEAR PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS:

Your child is not content.

Your grandchild is not a social media accessory.

Their childhood is not an opportunity to collect likes, comments, and followers.

Let children grow up with their privacy intact. When they are old enough to understand the implications, they should have a meaningful say in their digital identity.

You may see a cute picture. Someone else may see an opportunity to misuse it.

Let's choose protection over publicity.

SCAMS SLIDE INTO THE DMs TOO!

Happy Saturday, everyone!

That stranger in your DMs?
That unbelievable prize?
That urgent request for help?

Pause before you respond!

🔐 Don't accept every friend request.
🔐 Don't click suspicious links.
🔐 Never share your OTP, password, or bank details.
🔐 Verify before you trust.

Not every DM is harmless. Protect your information!

Have a beautiful, safe, and scam-free weekend!

THAT EMAIL CAN WAIT!
Hello, imagine receiving an email that says:

“Your account will be suspended in 24 hours! Click here to verify immediately!”

Scared, right?

You don't want to lose access to your account, so your finger is already moving towards the link.

WAIT! Oya, breathe first!

That message could be a phishing attempt designed to steal your login details, personal information, or money.

Here are five things to do before acting on an unexpected email:

✅ Check the sender's full email address.

✅ Don't allow threatening messages or urgent deadlines to pressure you.

✅ Inspect links before opening them.

✅ Avoid opening unexpected attachments.

✅ Verify the message through the organisation's official website or another trusted channel.

And please, don't assume an email is genuine just because it uses a familiar logo or mentions your name!

If you suspect phishing, report it. If you've already entered your password on a suspicious website, change it immediately through the official service and take steps to secure your account.

An email can wait. Your online safety cannot be taken for granted!

Day 9 of GWDGI's Cybersecurity Awareness Month campaign.

🔐 DON'T MAKE IT EASY FOR THEM!

THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK!
Oya, let's talk about something we do almost every day — browsing the internet!

You see a message saying, "Congratulations! You've won a cash prize!" Or an online shop is offering an expensive phone at an unbelievably cheap price.

Your finger is ready to click.
But wait!

Who sent it? Is the website genuine? What are they asking you to share?

Cybercriminals use fake websites, suspicious pop-ups, and tempting offers to trick people into revealing their personal information or losing money.

Before you click:

🔹 Check the website address carefully.
🔹 Look for HTTPS, but don't rely on it alone.
🔹 Ignore suspicious pop-ups.
🔹 Verify offers through official sources.
🔹 Keep your browser updated.

And please, teach your children and loved ones to do the same. Online safety is something we can practise together!

STOP. LOOK. THINK. THEN CLICK.

This is Day 8 of GWDGI's Cybersecurity Awareness Month Campaign.

DON'T MAKE IT EASY FOR THEM!

Small steps. Big protection.

Have you ever received a suspicious online offer? Share your experience in the comments — let's learn from one another.

UPDATE OR REGRET IT!

That “Remind me tomorrow” button can become a cybercriminal’s favourite button. 😅

Software updates are not just about getting new features or changing how your phone looks. Many updates contain security patches that fix vulnerabilities attackers could exploit to access your device, steal information, or install malware.

So, when your device says “Update available”, don’t keep postponing it.

🔐 Update your phone.
💻 Update your computer.
📱 Update your apps.
🛡️ Turn on automatic updates where possible.

A few minutes of updating today can save you from a major cybersecurity headache tomorrow.

Don’t make it easy for them.

YOUR PHONE IS A TREASURE CHEST!

Think about everything inside your phone: Photos. Messages. Emails. Contacts. Passwords. Location. Documents. Banking information.

Now imagine all of that falling into the wrong hands.

Oya, secure that treasure chest!
🔐 Use a strong PIN, password or biometric lock.
🔄 Install updates promptly.
📲 Download apps carefully.
⚙️ Review app permissions.
📍 Turn on Find My Device.

Protect what’s inside before someone tries to take it.

DON’T TAKE THE BAIT!

Phishing messages are designed to look convincing and make you act quickly.

“Your account will be suspended!”

“Verify immediately!”

“Click here to claim your reward!”

🚨 Don't let urgency make the decision for you.

Before clicking any link or responding to a suspicious message:

🔍 Check the sender.

🔗 Inspect the link.

⚠️ Look out for urgency and threats.

🔐 Never share passwords or verification codes.

📞 Verify through an official channel.

🚩 Report suspicious messages.

Pause → Check → Verify → Report.

Not every message deserves a click.

🛡️ DAY 4: TURN ON THE EXTRA LOCK

Your password is important.
But what if someone gets it?

That's where Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) comes in.

MFA adds an extra verification step when you log in, making it harder for someone to access your account even if they have your password.

Today, check your important accounts and turn on MFA.
📧 Email
📱 Social media
💼 Work accounts
💰 Financial accounts

One extra step can add an important layer of protection.

Don't make it easy for them.
Turn on the extra lock. 🔐
