National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) Zamfara State Council

RELEASE OF NURSES AND OTHER HEALTHCARE WORKERS FROM STATE CID POLICE HEADQUARTERS GUSAU
Be officially informed that the leadership of NANNM Zamfara State Council has secured the release of five healthcare workers comprising three (3) Nurses, one (1) Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW), and one (1) Ward Servant from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Police Headquarters, Gusau, Zamfara State.
2. The personnel had been detained since Tuesday, 12th May 2026, in connection with an ongoing investigation regarding a missing baby at the General Hospital, Kaura Namoda. The incident of a missing 10days old baby at the Kaura Namoda facility, the five staff members on duty were taken into custody by the State CID in Gusau for investigation.
3. Following intensive administrative and legal interventions by the leadership of NANNM, the workers were granted conditional bail today, Sunday, 17th May 2026.
4. The leadership of NANNM, spearheaded by the State Chairman, Nr. Comrade Shehu Sani Doki, initiated continuous strategic, administrative, and legal permutations to secure the safe release of the staff.
5. The rigorous efforts of the association yielded results, culminating in the formal release of all five individuals on conditional bail.
6. While our member and other healthcare workers have been released on bail to reunite with their families, the primary investigation remains active. The actual culprits behind the abduction of the baby have been identified/tracked, and official legal proceedings are being finalized to arraign the suspects in a competent court of law in due course.
7. In light of this unfortunate event, the State Executive Council of NANNM strongly urges all members across Zamfara State to exercise extreme clinical vigilance, maintain strict professional alertness, and rigorously adhere to institutional security protocols while on duty to prevent future occurrences.
8. The Association expresses profound gratitude to Almighty Allah (SWT) for His infinite mercy, grace, and protection that saw our colleagues through this trying period. All Relevant Stakeholders who intervened and provided support during the negotiation and bail processes. The Entire NANNM Membership for their steadfast prayers, solidarity, and resilience throughout the duration of this crisis.
