BREASTFEEDING: MYTHS VS FACTS 🍼💗

Breastfeeding comes with lots of advice, but not everything we hear is true. Let’s separate myths from facts and help new mums make informed choices. 🌸

❌ MYTH: “Breast milk is not enough for my baby.”
✅ FACT: For most healthy full-term babies, breast milk provides the nutrition and fluids they need during the first 6 months when exclusively breastfeeding.

❌ MYTH: “I don’t have enough milk.”
✅ FACT: Frequent and effective breastfeeding generally helps your body produce more milk. If you’re concerned about your supply, speak with a healthcare professional or lactation specialist.

❌ MYTH: “I must drink a particular food or drink to produce breast milk.”
✅ FACT: There is no single food that guarantees increased milk supply. A balanced diet, adequate fluids and frequent feeding are more important.

❌ MYTH: “Breastfeeding in public is inappropriate.”
✅ FACT: Breastfeeding is a normal way to feed a baby, and mothers should feel supported to breastfeed wherever they need to.

💗 Every breastfeeding journey is different. Whether breastfeeding is easy, challenging, exclusive or combined with other feeding methods, mums deserve support—not judgment.

What Is a Home First Aid Kit?

A home first aid kit is a collection of basic medical supplies, tools, and essential items kept at home to provide immediate care for minor injuries, illnesses, and emergencies before professional medical help is available.

Accidents can happen at any time—such as cuts, burns, bruises, falls, nosebleeds, sprains, or minor allergic reactions. Having a well-stocked first aid kit at home allows you to respond quickly and safely instead of searching for supplies when every second matters.

A good home first aid kit should contain essentials such as bandages, sterile gauze, antiseptic supplies, gloves, scissors, a thermometer, basic medicines, and other safety items. It should be stored in an easily accessible place that adults in the household know about, while medicines and potentially dangerous items should be kept safely away from children.

Remember, a first aid kit is not a substitute for professional medical care. It is designed to provide immediate first aid while you determine whether further medical attention is needed.

Every home should have a first aid kit because being prepared can make a big difference when an unexpected situation occurs. 🩹🏠❤️

💧 DAY 6: STAY HYDRATED, MAMA!

After childbirth, your body needs plenty of fluids to support recovery, energy and overall wellbeing. And if you’re breastfeeding, staying hydrated is especially important. 🍼💕

Here are a few simple reminders:

💧 Drink regularly — Keep a bottle of water close, especially while feeding your baby.

⚡ Support your energy — Dehydration can leave you feeling tired and sluggish.

🌿 Support digestion — Adequate fluids can help prevent constipation, which can be common after childbirth.

🍼 Breastfeeding reminder — Drink according to your thirst. You don’t need to force excessive amounts of water to produce more breast milk.

🍉 Choose hydrating foods — Fruits, vegetables, soups and other water-rich foods can also contribute to your fluid intake.

❤️ Remember: You’re taking care of a little one, but you need care too. Keep yourself nourished, hydrated and rested.

🥗 HEALTHY EATING AFTER CHILDBIRTH

After childbirth, your body needs nourishment to recover, rebuild strength and support your new routine. And if you’re breastfeeding, good nutrition and adequate fluids are especially important. 💕

Here are a few simple reminders for new mums:

🥗 Choose a balanced diet — Include vegetables, fruits, whole grains, protein and healthy fats.

🍳 Eat protein-rich foods — Eggs, beans, fish, chicken, meat and nuts can support tissue repair and recovery.

🍊 Enjoy fruits and vegetables — They provide important vitamins, minerals and fibre.

💧 Stay hydrated — Keep water nearby and drink regularly, especially when breastfeeding.

🍬 Limit highly processed foods and excess sugar — Choose nourishing foods more often to support your energy and overall wellbeing.

🍽️ Don’t skip meals — Caring for a baby can be demanding, but your body needs regular nourishment too.

❤️ Remember: You deserve to be cared for too. Nourishing yourself is part of caring for your baby.

🚨 NEWBORN WARNING SIGNS PARENTS SHOULD NEVER IGNORE

Newborns can’t tell us when something is wrong, so knowing the warning signs can help parents seek care early. 👶🏽❤️

Watch out for:

🌡️ Fever — A temperature of 38°C (100.4°F) or higher in a baby under 3 months needs urgent medical assessment.

😴 Unusual sleepiness — Baby is extremely sleepy, difficult to wake, unusually weak or not responding normally.

🫁 Difficulty breathing — Fast or struggling breathing, grunting, chest pulling in, or flaring nostrils.

🍼 Poor feeding — Baby repeatedly refuses feeds or is feeding much less than usual.

🤮 Persistent vomiting — Frequent vomiting, especially forceful/projectile vomiting, should be assessed.

⚠️ Seizures or unusual movements — Stiffening, repeated jerking or other movements that concern you require urgent attention.

❤️ Trust your instincts. If your newborn seems seriously unwell or something feels wrong, don’t wait. Seek medical attention promptly.
