‎FIDAP CARES DONATES TO VULNERABLE PATIENTS AT LASUTH
‎
‎As part of its philanthropic initiative aimed at bridging critical gaps in healthcare access for vulnerable populations, FIDAP Cares paid a visit to the management of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, on Thursday, 4th of June, 2026.
‎
‎During the visit, the Director of FIDAP Cares, Mr. Ekinadese Osayande, explained that the organisation is a non-governmental initiative committed to supporting vulnerable populations with critical healthcare needs. He stated that LASUTH was selected as one of the beneficiaries of its inaugural interventions due to its reputation as a leading healthcare institution in Nigeria.
‎
‎As part of its first support programme, FIDAP Cares plans to provide financial assistance to indigent patients who are unable to settle their medical bills after discharge, as well as patients whose urgent surgeries have been delayed due to lack of funds. He mentioned that the organization would appreciate LASUTH's collaboration in organising a formal launch event for the initiative, which would serve as a platform to discuss additional support opportunities for both patients and staff, to strengthen the partnership between the organisation and the hospital.

‎The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, warmly received the FIDAP Cares team and expressed appreciation for their commitment to supporting indigent patients who are unable to settle their medical bills. Commending the organisation's generosity and compassion, Prof. Fabamwo assured the team that LASUTH would recognise FIDAP Cares by including the organisation in the hospital's Board of Honor Roll. He prayed for God's continued blessings upon their efforts and future endeavours.

‎LASUTH HOLDS JUNE GRAND ROUND ON EBOLA PREPAREDNESS
‎
‎The Departments of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, and Community Medicine and Primary Health Care at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) held the June edition of the hospital's Grand Round on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, with the theme: "Strengthening Preparedness, Triage, and Protection in LASUTH Against Ebola Virus Disease."
‎
‎Ebola Virus Disease is a severe and often fatal viral illness caused by viruses of the genus Ebolavirus. Due to its high mortality rate and potential for rapid transmission within healthcare facilities, effective infection prevention and control measures remain critical.
‎
‎Delivering the presentation, Consultant Community Physician and Primary Healthcare Specialist, Dr. Bisola Adebayo, explained that Ebola is believed to originate from infected animals, particularly fruit bats, and spreads to humans through direct contact with infected animals or their bodily fluids. She noted that transmission occurs through contact with the blood and other body fluids of infected persons, contaminated medical equipment, surfaces, and the handling of bodies of deceased victims.

‎Dr. Adebayo stated that symptoms may appear between two and twenty-one days after exposure and include fever, headache, muscle and joint pains, weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, unexplained bleeding or bruising, and, in severe cases, organ dysfunction.
‎
‎She emphasized that LASUTH, as a tertiary referral centre, frequently manages advanced and complex cases, making it imperative to strengthen protection measures through strict infection prevention and control protocols, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), environmental cleaning and disinfection, safe laboratory practices, and continuous monitoring of healthcare workers.
‎
‎In conclusion, she stressed that strengthening preparedness, triage, and protection against Ebola requires effective planning, continuous staff training, robust screening systems, strict infection prevention and control measures, and strong leadership commitment.
‎
‎Similarly, Consultant Medical Microbiologist, Dr. Mutiu Bamidele, highlighted the importance of maintaining a multidisciplinary Ebola Preparedness Committee to coordinate planning, monitoring, and response activities. He advocated for regular review of Standard Operating Procedures, continuous staff training, periodic simulation exercises, mock drills, and strengthened surveillance systems.

‎Dr. Bamidele further noted that triage remains the first line of defence against Ebola transmission, with the objectives of early case identification, immediate isolation, protection of healthcare workers and patients, and prevention of hospital-acquired infections.
‎
‎In his remarks, the Director of Clinical Services and Training and Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Prof. Adebowale O. Adekoya, commended the speakers and noted that the emergency session was organized to enhance knowledge, preparedness, and response capacity among LASUTH staff. He emphasized the need for continuous sensitization and training to ensure healthcare workers remain adequately prepared to respond to any potential Ebola-related threat.

‎LASUTH Top Management Committee Holds Send-Off Ceremony in Honour of Director of Nursing Services

‎The Top Management Committee of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) organised a send-off ceremony in honour of the outgoing Director of Nursing Services, Dr. Mrs. Oluwaseun Temitope Sikaiye, in recognition of her outstanding contributions and meritorious 35-year career in the Lagos State Civil Service. On Monday, June 1, 2026.

‎Delivering her welcome address, the Director of Hospital Administration and Human Resources, Mrs. Olayinka Oye-Bamgbose, welcomed members of the Top Management Committee to the special retirement programme organised in honour of an exceptional leader, mentor, administrator, scholar, and distinguished nursing professional.
‎
‎She stated that the occasion was not merely a retirement ceremony but a celebration of a life dedicated to purpose, service, excellence, sacrifice, and impactful contributions to humanity.
‎
‎Mrs. Oye-Bamgbose also noted that while careers eventually come to an end, the impact of genuine service endures. She said Dr. Sikaiye's legacy would remain evident in the many lives she had touched, the healthcare professionals she had mentored, the systems she had strengthened, and the standards of excellence she consistently upheld throughout her distinguished career.

‎Describing her as a "gem" whose impact would continue to be felt long after her retirement, the CMD wished her success in her future endeavours and prayed for continued divine favour, good health, progress, and prosperity.

‎They unanimously described her as an exemplary leader who demonstrated a remarkable dedication to professional ethics and diligent service to LASUTH. They commended her outstanding leadership qualities, balanced approach to service delivery and union activities, strict adherence to due process, and dedication to maintaining high clinical standards throughout her distinguished career.

‎In her response, Dr. Mrs. Oluwaseun Temitope Sikaiye reflected on her professional journey, recounting how her career at LASUTH began on June 3, 1991. She spoke emotionally about the positive influence of Prof. Fabamwo on her career and how his encouragement, guidance, and words of affirmation helped shape her professional growth.

‎Dr. Sikaiye acknowledged that her journey was not without challenges but noted that she overcame them through resilience, hard work, valuable life lessons, and an enduring passion for the nursing profession.

‎BAND OF FAITH SOCIETY OF THE ARCHBISHOP VINING MEMORIAL CHURCH CATHEDRAL DONATES TO INDIGENT PATIENTS AT LASUTH

‎As part of its welfare and charitable outreach, the Band of Faith Society of the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral (AVMCC) donated funds to support indigent patients in the Paediatric Department of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on Monday, May 25, 2026.
‎
‎The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, while receiving the donation, expressed appreciation to the Band of Faith Society for its generous gesture towards raising funds for indigent paediatric patients in the hospital.
‎
‎According to him, AVMCC is a church that is very close and dear to the heart of LASUTH, noting that the hospital has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the church and several of its societies over the years. He also recalled that AVMCC established the Chapel of St. Luke the Physician (Anglican Communion) within LASUTH.
‎
‎Prof. Fabamwo stated that members of the Band of Faith Society contributed personally to raise the funds and collectively decided that the donations should be used to support indigent patients below the age of twelve, and where necessary, extended to patients up to sixteen years old. He added that the society pledged to continue replenishing the fund as long as LASUTH maintains integrity, honesty, and transparency in the administration of the donations.

‎The CMD assured the team that LASUTH places high value on accountability and that the funds would be judiciously managed for the benefit of the patients. He prayed that God would reward the society for its kindness and compassion.
‎
‎He further remarked that the activities of the Band of Faith Society reflect the true essence of the church, emphasizing that welfare and support for the less privileged should remain a core responsibility of religious organisations. He also personally commended the Head of the Medical Social Welfare Unit of the hospital, Dr. Aderemi Nojeem Lawal, for his dedication and integrity in managing welfare support and donated funds within the hospital.

‎In her remarks, the President of the Band of Faith Society, Sister Yewande Olorunsola, who led the delegation, explained that the society operates a Charity Committee which partners with general hospitals, including LASUTH, through its “Alaanu Project” aimed at supporting healthcare institutions and indigent patients.
‎
‎She noted that the society recognised the increasing level of need within the country, which inspired the decision to support indigent patients receiving treatment at LASUTH.
‎
‎Similarly, the Chairperson of the Charity Committee, Sister Funmi Sodipo, stated that the society’s primary focus is to provide assistance to indigent patients. She explained that the group initially started by offering seasonal individual support before expanding to partner with hospitals that demonstrate transparency and maintain effective welfare programmes.
‎
‎She described the donation as the beginning of a lasting partnership with LASUTH and expressed appreciation to the hospital management for providing the opportunity to collaborate with the institution.

‎LASUTH Caregivers Academy Graduates Fourth Cohort of Caregivers

‎The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has graduated a new set of students from its Caregivers Academy during the fourth cohort graduation ceremony held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the MRC Auditorium, LASUTH.
‎
‎A total of 98 students successfully completed the programme. The ceremony was attended by LASUTH executives and members of the top management committee, heads of institutions, heads of departments and units, faculty members, parents, and relatives of the graduands.
‎
‎The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, congratulated the graduating students and commended the Head of the Academy as well as the resource persons for their dedication and commitment to impacting valuable knowledge and skills to the students.
‎
‎In his address, Prof. Fabamwo reflected on the growing demand for home care services in developed countries due to their ageing populations. He noted that many Nigerians who migrated abroad to take up caregiving jobs often lacked formal training because caregiving was wrongly perceived as a menial profession that required little or no specialised knowledge. According to him, this informed the decision of LASUTH management to establish the Caregivers Academy to train and produce skilled caregivers equipped with professional competencies, ethical values, and knowledge of the legal implications of caregiving.
‎
‎The CMD further explained that management considered the moral dilemma surrounding the training of young people who might eventually relocate abroad for employment opportunities. However, he stated that every individual has the right to maximise available opportunities globally. He added that LASUTH subsequently partnered with an international institution, John Academy, to enable graduands obtain internationally recognised certification in home care services.

‎Prof. Fabamwo told the graduands that a new horizon had opened for them, offering opportunities for both local and international engagements. He proudly disclosed that LASUTH currently employs graduates of the academy who are willing to provide care services within the hospital. He encouraged the graduands to utilise the knowledge and skills acquired to improve lives and provide compassionate care to those in need. He also urged them to uphold the values of excellence for which LASUTH is known.

‎Delivering a goodwill message, the Director of Shepherd Haven, Mrs. Oluwatosin Shodunke, congratulated the graduands for successfully completing the programme. She described them as fortunate to be products of the LASUTH Caregivers Academy and reminded them that caregiving is a service to humanity that must be carried out diligently and with the fear of God. She emphasised the importance of integrity and professionalism in their practice.

‎Mrs. Oluremi Awe, a lecturer at the academy also gave her remarks on behalf of the Members of Faculty , she commended the students for their persistence, dedication, and commitment throughout the programme. She noted that while certificates may open doors, it is the character and attitude that sustains opportunities. She encouraged the graduates to remain compassionate and always give their best wherever they find themselves.

‎Delivering the valedictory speech, the overall best graduating student and best student in OSCE (Practical), Ms. Onyemenem Serah, expressed profound gratitude to God for the successful completion of the programme. She appreciated the management of LASUTH for establishing the academy and thanked the Head of School and faculty members for their mentorship, discipline, dedication, and commitment to excellence.

‎According to her, the training had taught the graduates that caregiving goes beyond physical assistance and encompasses compassion, empathy, dignity, and the promotion of holistic wellbeing for those entrusted to their care. She added that the impact of the faculty members on their lives would remain invaluable.

‎LASUTH RECEIVES ENDOWMENT FUNDS FROM ORUNSII WELCARE FOUNDATION TO STRENGTHEN SUPPORT FOR INDIGENT PAEDIATRIC SURGICAL PATIENTS

‎The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, today joined fourteen General Hospitals in Lagos State as beneficiaries of an endowment fund presented by the Orunsii Welcare Foundation in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady of Lagos State, in a significant humanitarian intervention aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery for indigent patients, particularly in paediatric surgical care. The presentation ceremony took place at the Banquet Hall of the Office of the First Lady, Alausa, Lagos, on Monday, 27th of April, 2026.

‎The endowment fund, distributed across 13 General Hospitals and 1 Teaching Hospital in Lagos State, was designed to provide structured and sustainable financial support for indigent patients requiring urgent medical and surgical interventions, with a strong focus on paediatric care.
‎
‎The Orunsii Welcare Foundation, operating under the guiding principle “Made for Compassion,” outlined its core intervention areas as mental health awareness and stigma reduction, elderly care and dignified ageing, environmental health advocacy, and paediatric surgical support for vulnerable children in need of life-saving treatment.
‎
‎Speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH who is the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Foundation, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, expressed deep appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a timely and impactful intervention that would significantly improve access to care for indigent patients across the state.

‎He commended the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Claudiana Sanwoolu, who steers the wheel of the Foundation, for her continued dedication to humanitarian service and healthcare advancement, noting that her contributions would remain impactful in the memory of Lagos residents.

‎Prof. Fabamwo also recalled a previous visit by the First Lady to the paediatric unit of LASUTH approximately five years ago, during which she donated cash gifts to children and their mothers in the hospital. He noted that while the gesture was highly appreciated, he had suggested at the time that a more structured and consolidated approach could yield greater and more sustainable impact.

‎He stated that the current endowment initiative reflects that vision, transitioning from individual goodwill gestures to a coordinated system of support capable of reaching more patients and delivering long-term benefits.

‎The inclusion of LASUTH among the 14 beneficiary hospitals underscores the hospital’s central role in tertiary healthcare delivery in Lagos State and its continued commitment to providing quality care, particularly for the vulnerable population.
