‎LASUTH SERVICE CHARTER CHAPTER CELEBRATES CUSTOMER SERVICE WEEK
‎
‎The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Chapter of the Service Charter, in recognition and commemoration of the 2026 Customer Service Week, paid a courtesy visit to the Top Management Committee of the hospital on Tuesday, 5th October, 2026.
‎
‎During his address, the Chairman of Service Charter, LASUTH Chapter, Dr. Ramon Morounkola, described the role of the Service Charter in the hospital as one that has helped define and structure a high standard of service delivery to both the external and internal publics of the hospital.
‎
‎Dr. Morounkola laid emphasis on the five A’s of customer service excellence, which are: availability, accessibility, agreeability, attention and appreciation, describing them as established markers for purposeful customer service delivery. He further appreciated the management for its support in ensuring that the Service Charter Unit functions effectively.
‎
‎The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, in his response, expressed his delight at receiving the team and emphasised that the effectiveness of the Service Charter is best achieved through a bilateral approach.
‎
‎The CMD noted that while hospital staff are constantly trained and guided on the ethics and standards of their profession, patients and other stakeholders of the hospital should also be adequately informed about their rights and responsibilities.
‎
‎Prof. Fabamwo assured the Service Charter team that the hospital management would continue to reinforce excellent and quality service delivery to all and sundry. He commended the current chairman for his revolutionary impact and encouraged the team to sustain the momentum and not rest on their oars.
‎

‎KNIGHTS OF WEMA BANK PLC DONATE HOSPITAL EQUIPMENT TO ONCOLOGY UNIT

‎The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital recently received some hospital equipment from the Knights of Wema Bank Plc, a Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Bank.
‎
‎Speaking on the essence of the donation, the Group Head, Financial Institutions at Wema Bank, Florence Kayode, said it is an annual all-staff participatory contribution pooled from every staff of the bank to procure items for government owned institutions in the country. She also noted that LASUTH being the center of tertiary healthcare delivery in Lagos and Nigeria at large, is a well deserving recipient.

‎The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo appreciated the thoughtful donation and acknowledged the selfless contribution by the staff of Wema Bank. He spoke of the commitment of the Oncology Unit to providing quality care and support to all patients registered there. Prof. Fabamwo further acknowledged that the donated items would make a huge impact on the service delivery to the patients.

‎The Head of Unit, Dr. Temitope Olatunji thanked the Wema Bank delegates and described their donation as thoughtful and well-tailored to the needs of the Oncology Unit.
‎
‎Other representatives of the bank present at the donation are Head, Consumer Banking, Temitope Ogundeji; Team Lead, Financial Institutions, Tandy Oguntade; Team Lead, Corporate Sustainability Investment, Olawunmi Ajayi and Sustainability Officer, Adesola Oluwaranti.
‎
‎The donated equipment were chemotherapy reclining chairs, IV Drip stands, ward screens, couch roll, wheel chairs and standing fans.

‎LASUTH PHARMACISTS CELEBRATE 2026 WORLD PHARMACY DAY
‎
‎In celebrating the 2026 World Pharmacy Day, the Pharmacy Department of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH made a call for the recognition of the vital contributions of pharmacists to patient-centred care. This call to action was made during the courtesy visit to the hospital’s top management by LASUTH’s pharmacists, in commemoration of their day.
‎
‎The Head of the Department, Pharm. Patricia Odunuga in her address, asked pharmacists to up the ante in their professional practice so as to be reckoned with at all levels of healthcare service delivery . She noted three priorities for the future, which are, expanding practice, continuous professional development and mentorship, system strengthening and innovation.
‎
‎The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, in his response, described pharmacy practice as the backbone of the health sector and cannot be over-estimated.
‎
‎While he admonished the pharmacists to be prepared for more opportunities to excel, Prof. Fabamwo revealed that the management is not resting on its oars and is assiduously working towards setting up a mini manufacturing unit. He further expressed his satisfaction with the work done at the pharmacy department and thanked the staff for their commitment and professionalism at delivering quality healthcare services to patients.

‎Some of the pharmacists who paid the courtesy call to the management were, Pharm. Adekunle Orekoya, Pharm. Olumide Olayinka, and Pharm. Adebukola Babalola.

‎Part of the activities contained in the celebrations for the World Pharmacist’s Day in LASUTH, was a symposium where Prof. Sunday Adesegun, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Lagos gave the keynote address on the topic, ‘Transforming Pharmacy Practice for Safer Accessible and Patient-Centered Healthcare in Nigeria’.

‎NIGERIAN CARDIAC SOCIETY LAUDS LASUTH CMD'S EFFORT AT SUPPORTING CARDIO VASCULAR CARE

‎The President of the Nigerian Cardiac Society (NCS), Prof. Augustin Odili, praised the effort of the Chief Medical Director of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for creating avenues for training and mentorship for upcoming medical professionals, especially in cardiovascular care. This accolade was shared during the courtesy visit of the executive members of NCS and the local organizing committee for its Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the NCS, to the top management of LASUTH, on Monday, 21st September, 2026.

‎Prof. Odili praised the effort of LASUTH’S Management in ensuring that interventional cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons in the hospital have platforms to effectively put their knowledge and experiences to deliver quality healthcare to patients. This has been achieved through the institutionalisation of a fully functional cardiac catheterisation laboratory and performance of regular open heart surgeries.

‎The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo in his response, appreciated the visit by the executives and noted that the hospital’s functional Cath-lab which currently has three interventional cardiologists, has so far carried out 350 procedures. He further talked about the impact of the School of Echocardiography as a notable platform which was established for students especially graduates of physiology to receive quality training and therefore become skilled in the techniques. The CMD mentioned that trainees eventually became employable both in and outside the country.

CMD Commends NOUN Students for Donation, Calls For Curriculum Upgrade

The Chief Medical Director of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo made a call for the inclusion of more 21st century inclined courses in the academic curriculum of Universities in the country. He made this call for an upgrade during the courtesy visit and donation of cleaning materials to the hospital by 300 level and 400 level students of the National Open University, (NOUN).

The leader of the team from NOUN, Ifeanyi Okata, said the donation was made in a bid to reinforce the awareness on the essence of community service. He said apart from fulfilling the requirements of one of their courses tagged, DES:303, Community Development Project; the students have a resolve to contribute their own quota to the society by giving selflessly.

While commending their effort, the CMD charged them not to relent on their effort at lending a helping hand whenever they can. He further acknowledged the effort of the leadership of the school at offering marketable courses to students who may otherwise have been stuck with courses that may not hold much potential for them after graduation. Prof. Fabamwo admonished the students to become good ambassadors of their institution and build reputable future for themselves and the society at large.

‎RESPONSE OF THE MANAGEMENT OF LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL (LASUTH) TO ONLINE ALLEGATIONS REGARDING THE CARE OF A ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT PATIENT
‎
‎The attention of the Management of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has been drawn to an online publication alleging that a 47-year-old patient involved in a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) was left unattended to at the Hospital, resulting in the patient's death.
‎
‎Management considers it important to clarify the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident while expressing its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
‎
‎The patient was brought to LASUTH following a Road Traffic Accident and was assessed as a polytrauma patient, requiring multidisciplinary specialist care. In keeping with established clinical practice for patients with multiple traumatic injuries, the patient was assessed and managed by the relevant clinical teams, including different Consultant Surgeons, based on the nature and severity of the injuries identified.
‎
‎The patient's condition was critical and required intensive monitoring and multidisciplinary management. Despite the interventions and supportive care provided, the patient's clinical condition unfortunately deteriorated, and the patient subsequently passed away in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), approximately seven days after presentation.
‎
‎Management therefore wishes to state categorically that the allegation that the patient was simply left unattended to is not consistent with the information available to the Hospital regarding the patient's care.
‎
‎LASUTH is a tertiary healthcare institution that provides specialized and multidisciplinary care for critically ill and severely injured patients. Patients with complex trauma may require the coordinated involvement of several specialties, and their outcomes can be influenced by the severity and extent of their injuries despite appropriate and timely medical intervention.
‎
‎Nevertheless, Management acknowledges the concerns expressed by the family and understands the distress and grief that accompany the loss of a loved one. The Hospital takes every allegation concerning patient care seriously.
‎
‎Accordingly, the circumstances surrounding the patient's presentation, treatment, progression, and eventual outcome will be reviewed through the appropriate institutional processes to establish the facts and identify any areas requiring further attention.
‎
‎While respecting the confidentiality of the deceased patient and the privacy of the family, Management will continue to provide clarification through the appropriate channels where necessary.
‎
‎LASUTH remains committed to providing safe, timely, compassionate, and evidence-based care to all patients and will continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and accountability in the delivery of healthcare.

LASUTH Physiotherapy Department Marks 2026 World Physiotherapy Day with Focus on Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention

The Physiotherapy Department of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, (LASUTH), on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, joined physiotherapists across the world to commemorate the 2026 World Physiotherapy Day with the theme “Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke Prevention.”

The day’s activities began with a courtesy visit to the hospital management led by the Head of Department, alongside members of the department.

The Head of Department, Mr. Olanrewaju Fadeyi described cardiovascular diseases as the leading cause of death in any society today, and therefore reiterated that the general public should understand the risks and preventive measures, because prevention is better than cure.

In his welcome address, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, congratulated the department and described the theme as timely and critical.

“The theme is very important because cardiovascular diseases are very common. They are silent killers. The more we talk about prevention, the more lives we can save.

Prof. Fabamwo noted that there is an inbuilt multi-disciplinary approach to preventing and managing cardiovascular diseases involving cardiologists, lifestyle medicine physicians, nutritionists among others.

He commended the department for its dedication to patient care and assured them of management’s continued support.

“We will continue to make efforts to ensure that your welfare enjoys topmost priority.

The Chief Medical Director further charged membees of the department to maintain the same commitment, and dedication to their duties adding that their contribution to patient mobility and recovery is invaluable.

The activities for the celebration PT Day include , a radio sensitization program and visits to organizations to share awareness materials on cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

The Director, Clinical Services and Training of LASUTH, Professor Adebowale O. Adekoya also reiterated most of the things espoused by the CMD adding that provisions have been made in some of the ongoing constructions to accommodate the department.
