Sometimes the biggest problem isn't the argument itself.

It's what happens after the argument.

Do you punish your spouse with silence ?

Do you withdraw affection ?

Do you intentionally make them jealous ?

Do you involve family members in every disagreement ?

Do you threaten divorce every time you are angry ?

Do you sleep angry for days without communicating ?

These behaviors can slowly create emotional distance.

A healthy marriage doesn't mean you never fight.

It means you learn how to fight for the marriage instead of fighting against each other.

Which of these characters do you possess whenever you have an argument with your spouse or friend ?

If respect has already been damaged, it doesn't necessarily mean the marriage is finished.

But rebuilding it requires consistent action, not just saying:
“I'm sorry.”

Start with small things.

Listen before responding.

Stop insulting each other.

Keep private matters private.

Apologize when you are wrong.

Keep your promises.

Appreciate each other's efforts.

Speak respectfully even when angry.

Stop keeping score of every mistake.

And most importantly:
Make your spouse feel emotionally safe with you again.

Respect is rebuilt, one interaction at a time.

Will you take this context serious from today ?

Sometimes people say:
“My spouse doesn't respect me.”

Before we point fingers, we should ask:
“What does disrespect look like in our marriage?”

Is it:
Insults?

Shouting ?

Public humiliation ?

Constant criticism ?

Ignoring your spouse ?

Comparing them to others ?

Making important decisions without considering them ?

Dismissing their feelings ?

Exposing private marital issues ?

Threatening them ?

Controlling them financially ?

Using children against them ?

If these things are happening repeatedly, the couple needs to take the issue seriously.

And importantly, respect does not mean tolerating abuse.

No one should be expected to remain silent in the face of violence, threats, coercion, or serious abuse simply because they are married.

Being married does not mean your spouse loses their individuality.

Your partner can have personal space.

They can have opinions.

They can have friendships and healthy interests.

They can need quiet time.

They can say, “I am not comfortable with this.”

And that boundary deserves to be discussed rather than automatically dismissed.

Marriage is about two people becoming one in commitment—not one person controlling another person.

Sometimes people only notice what their spouse is doing wrong.

But what about what they are doing right ?

Your spouse may be working hard.

Cooking.

Taking care of the children.

Paying bills.

Supporting your dreams.

Keeping the home running.

Trying to become a better partner.

Sometimes all that person needs to hear is:
“Thank you. I see what you're doing.”

Never underestimate the power of appreciation.

A simple:
“Thank you.”
“I appreciate you.”
“I'm proud of you.”
“I noticed your effort.”

can make a person feel valued.

This is something couples need to understand.

Respect does not mean:
“Whatever you say is correct.”

No.

Two people can love each other and have completely different opinions.

You can say:
“I don't see things the way you do.”

without saying:
“You are stupid.”

You can say:
“I disagree.”

without saying:
“You never have sense.”

Disagreement is normal. Disrespect is a choice.

One of the quickest ways to damage a marriage is to constantly embarrass your partner in front of other people.

Correcting your spouse publicly.

Mocking their appearance.

Making jokes about their weaknesses.

Telling friends intimate details about your marriage.

Comparing your husband or wife to another person's spouse.

These things may look small to the person doing them.
But they can leave a deep wound.

Your spouse should not have to wonder whether you will protect their dignity when other people are around.

There are situations where serious matters must be addressed, but whenever possible, correct privately and encourage publicly.

This is a very important one.

During courtship, people often share their deepest fears, weaknesses, insecurities, family problems and painful experiences.

Your spouse may tell you things they have never told anyone else.

That information should become a place of safety, not ammunition.🏹

Don't say:

“I knew you were like this because of your family.”

Don't expose your spouse's private struggles to friends and relatives simply because you are angry.

Don't use their greatest insecurity to win an argument.

Because once someone begins thinking:
“I cannot be vulnerable with my spouse because they will use it against me,”

something very important in the marriage has been damaged.

It is easy to respect someone when everything is going well.

The real test comes when you're angry.

Imagine a husband comes home late and his wife is upset.

She could say:
“You are always irresponsible! You don't care about this family!”

Or she could say:
“I was worried because you came home much later than expected. I need us to communicate better when this happens.”

Both women are upset.
But the second approach communicates the problem without attacking the person's character.

The same applies to husbands.
Instead of:
“You are a useless woman. You can't do anything right.”

Try:
“I'm frustrated about what happened. Can we talk about how we can handle this differently next time ?”

You can address a problem without attacking the person.
That is respect.
