NATIONAL ORTHOPAEDIC HOSPITAL JOS (NOHJ) HOSTS UNIVERSITY OF JOS COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES TO PARTNER ON MEDICAL TRAINING AND RESEARCH
The National Orthopaedic Hospital, Jos (NOHJ) on the 13th day of August, 2026, received a top management team from the College of Health Sciences, University of Jos. The friendly visit aimed to build a strong partnership for student medical training and joint healthcare research. The Medical Director of NOHJ, Professor Icha I. Onche, alongside the hospital's management team which includes the Director of Clinical Services, Jeplah Nankwat S.; the Director of Administration, Gideon Nchoka Adamu; and the Head of Accounts, Joy Penyit warmly welcomed the visitors.
The university team was led by the top leadership of the College, including the Provost, Professor J.K.A. Madaki; the Deputy Provost, Professor M.D. Audu; and the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology, Professor James Garba Damen, mni. The team visited the hospital to congratulate Professor Icha I. Onche on his appointment as the Pioneer Medical Director of NOHJ. The visit also marked the celebration of the hospital's giving of high-quality healthcare to Nigerians. Speaking during the visit, the university leadership praised the Medical Director’s great leadership. They noted that within just 2 years, many patients have already benefited from advanced orthopaedic services at the facility. The team also praised the fast building development achieved at NOHJ within this short time.
To help student training and community service, the College made two clear requests for partnership:
* Clinical Postings: A partnership to send university healthcare students to NOHJ’s facilities for their practical medical training.
* Joint Research: Shared research work between the academic staff of the University of Jos and the medical teams at NOHJ.
* The visitors also expressed the desire for the hospital to serve as a model for the new Radiology and Physiotherapy courses that have already commenced.
The visitors also spoke about the importance of documentation, noting that any documented work stands as clear evidence of progress. They added that these training goals align directly with Mr. President's health agenda for the country.
In response, the Medical Director explained the specialized services rendered by NOHJ and shared his personal experiences. He highly praised the University of Jos for its high standards, stating that "UniJos always produces the best." He thanked the visitors for their support, praised their efforts to work together, and declared an open-door policy for the partnership. He also stated that NOHJ remains fully committed to excellent clinical care, medical education, and strong partnerships with top academic institutions to improve healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
