PROFESSOR SALISU TAKES COMPASSIONATE OUTREACH TO TOFA, VISITS SICK, CONSOLES BEREAVED FAMILIES

The Director-General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, undertook a compassionate outreach to Tofa Local Government Area, where he visited sick residents, offered support to vulnerable people and extended condolences to bereaved families across communities. The outreach took him to Kofar Gabas, Kofar Kudu, Kofar Yamma and Kofar Arewa, where he interacted with residents and personally checked on people facing illness and difficult circumstances. At Kofar Gabas, the DG visited an injured child and condoled with a bereaved family in the Lungun Gidan Kadangaru area, before proceeding to Kofar Kudu, where he checked on sick residents, including those in Lungun Tsamiya, while also extending condolences and support to bereaved families.

At Kofar Yamma, Professor Salisu visited sick residents and condoled with the family of the late Audu Mamman, while at Kofar Arewa, he paid a condolence visit at Babban Gida over the death of the father of Meku, the late Yayo, and subsequently checked on several sick residents in the community. Throughout the visit, the DG offered words of comfort and encouragement to families and individuals, while also exchanging greetings with prominent and respected members of the Tofa community. His presence provided an opportunity to strengthen community ties and demonstrate solidarity with residents during moments of grief, illness and hardship.

In a further demonstration of his concern for the welfare of vulnerable members of society, Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim provided financial assistance to some needy people and patients to help alleviate the difficulties confronting them. The outreach underscores the DG's commitment to a people-centred approach to leadership, in which compassion, community engagement and support for those in need remain important alongside the delivery of healthcare services. The visit was widely marked by prayers for the deceased, the recovery of the sick and continued blessings and success for the DG.

KSPHCMB DG INAUGURATES COMMITTEE TO STRENGTHEN RECORD KEEPING, FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY

The Director-General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, has inaugurated the Standing Committee on the Enhancement of Record Keeping, Audit and Compliance, with a charge to strengthen accountability, transparency and compliance in the management of the Board’s financial and administrative records. The committee is expected to promote proper documentation, timely reconciliation of accounts, compliance with approved financial procedures, and effective monitoring and reporting across the Board.

Inaugurating the committee, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim said the initiative was aimed at strengthening the Board’s internal systems and ensuring that resources entrusted to the primary healthcare sector are properly accounted for and utilised for their intended purposes. He charged members to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, diligence and professionalism, stressing that accurate record keeping, regular monitoring and strict adherence to financial procedures were critical to effective management and improved service delivery. The DG further urged the committee to promptly identify gaps, provide practical recommendations to management and ensure that its assignment produces measurable improvements in accountability and compliance.

KSPHCMB DG HAILS GARKO LGA INTERVENTIONS TO STRENGTHEN HEALTHCARE DELIVERY

The Director-General, Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, today, Monday, 31 August 2026, led the management team of the Board to Garko Local Government Secretariat, where he graced the official handover of five vans procured by the Chairman of Garko Local Government, Hon. Saminu Abdullahi, to support healthcare delivery across the Local Government Area. The intervention is aimed at easing transportation challenges for sick persons, facilitating timely referrals and improving access to essential healthcare services at the grassroots.

Speaking at the occasion, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim commended the Garko Local Government Chairman for the initiative, describing it as a commendable demonstration of responsive leadership and a practical investment in the health and wellbeing of the people. He noted that effective transportation is an important component of healthcare delivery, particularly in ensuring that patients can access appropriate care without unnecessary delays. The DG also expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his sustained commitment and interventions in the health sector, which he said have continued to strengthen primary healthcare services and improve the wellbeing of citizens across the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Garko Local Government, Hon. Saminu Abdullahi, said the provision of the five vehicles was part of his administration’s efforts to address transportation challenges affecting residents and complement ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the Local Government Area. He explained that the vans would support the transportation of sick persons and facilitate referrals whenever necessary, while assuring that the vehicles would be deployed for their intended purpose. He expressed appreciation to the KSPHCMB management for its continued partnership and support towards improving healthcare services in Garko.

DG KSPHCMB ORDERS IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE ACTION, REASSIGNS DAGUMAWA HEALTH CLINIC MANAGERS OVER OPERATIONAL IRREGULARITIES

The Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, today Monday, 31st August 2026, undertook a supervisory visit to Dagumawa Health Clinic in Wudil Local Government Area, where he identified several operational irregularities affecting the effective functioning of the facility. The visit was part of the Board’s ongoing supervisory efforts to strengthen accountability, improve staff performance and ensure that primary healthcare facilities consistently deliver quality and responsive services to the people.

Following the findings, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim took immediate administrative action by relieving the Officer-in-Charge and the Deputy Officer-in-Charge of their responsibilities at the facility. The DG stressed that the Board would not compromise on discipline, accountability and compliance with established standards, noting that all personnel entrusted with managing public health facilities must demonstrate commitment, professionalism and responsibility in the discharge of their duties.

The DG consequently directed the Primary Health Care Coordinator (PHCC) of Wudil LGA to immediately address all identified irregularities and institute appropriate corrective measures to restore the facility to the required operational standards. He further directed the PHCC to submit a comprehensive report on the actions taken to the Board within one week, emphasising the need for prompt and sustainable improvements in service delivery.

Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim reaffirmed the Board’s determination to intensify supervision and monitoring across primary healthcare facilities in Kano State, stressing that effective oversight, accountability and adherence to standards remain essential to ensuring that communities receive the quality primary healthcare services they deserve.

Kano State Concludes 2027 Routine Immunization Work Plan Development Workshop with Focus on Zero-Dose LGAs and Improved Accountability

The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, in partnership with Save the Children, Nigeria and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), has successfully concluded a two-day workshop for the development of the draft 2027 Routine Immunization (RI) Work Plan, with stakeholders providing technical inputs and strategic recommendations to strengthen immunization planning and implementation across the state. The workshop was held at Millennium Hall, Tahir Guest Palace, Kano.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders, thematic leads, implementing partners, and technical teams to review the performance of the 2026 RI work plan, assess implementation gaps, and define strategic priorities for 2027. The first day focused on reviewing evidence, identifying programme gaps, refining thematic activities, and validating proposed interventions through thematic group presentations and plenary discussions.
During the workshop, the Director for Disease Control and Immunization encouraged all thematic areas to critically review their 2026 work plans and develop the 2027 plan based on findings from the Situation Analysis (SITAN). The thematic groups presented their proposed activities, which were reviewed by participants, allowing for constructive feedback, observations, and recommendations to ensure stronger alignment with identified priorities.
The evidence reviews highlighted key implementation challenges requiring attention in the 2027 plan, including partner coordination, programme management, supply chain performance, supportive supervision, governance structures, financial accountability, and data quality management. These findings emphasized the need for stronger linkage between activities, available evidence, micro plan data, measurable targets, ownership, and accountability mechanisms.
The Director-General of KSPHCMB, Prof. Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, charged thematic groups and Routine Immunization partners to change the narrative in 2027 by ensuring that persistent challenges affecting immunization coverage, particularly those related to zero-dose LGAs, are fully addressed. He emphasized the importance of stronger coordination, accountability, and targeted interventions to reach unreached and under-immunized children.
The workshop concluded with thematic groups tasked to finalize outstanding adjustments, including activity alignment, costing, budgeting, ownership, and partner contributions. Participants agreed that the final 2027 RI Work Plan must be evidence-driven, clearly define responsible actors, incorporate measurable outputs, and establish effective monitoring mechanisms to improve immunization outcomes across Kano State.
The successful conclusion of the workshop marks a significant step toward strengthening Routine Immunization delivery in Kano State. Through collaborative planning, evidence-based interventions, and renewed commitment from government and partners, stakeholders reaffirmed their resolve to address existing gaps, improve accountability, and ensure equitable access to life-saving vaccines for every eligible child, especially those in zero-dose communities.

KSPHCMB DG INSPECTS DAMBATTA PHCs, REVIEWS PATIENT FLOW AND FACILITY NEEDS

The Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, led an on-the-spot supervisory visit to Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities and ongoing infrastructure projects in Dambatta Local Government Area to assess the progress of the projects, observe service delivery and identify areas requiring improvement.

Accompanied by the Chairman of Dambatta Local Government Area, Ambassador Jamilu Abubakar, Professor Ibrahim visited Gwarabjawa PHC, Women Centre Health Clinic and Ajumawa PHC, where he inspected ongoing works and assessed how the facilities are being used. He also observed the flow of patients and the organisation of services, particularly the use of available spaces within the facilities.

The exercise enabled the DG to identify areas where some facilities may require restructuring to improve patient movement, service organisation and the effective use of available spaces. He also provided technical guidance on the ongoing infrastructure projects to ensure that the work responds to the actual needs of the facilities and the communities they serve.

Professor Ibrahim reaffirmed the KSPHCMB’s commitment to regular supervision and close collaboration with Local Government authorities to improve the standard and functionality of PHC facilities, stressing that infrastructure development must go hand in hand with efficient service delivery and a better experience for patients seeking care.

KANO CHARTS 2027 MALARIA PLAN, PRIORITISES PREVENTION AND ELIMINATION

The Kano State Ministry of Health, through the State Malaria Elimination Programme (SMEP), has developed a comprehensive 2027 State Malaria Operational Plan to strengthen coordinated action against malaria and accelerate progress towards its elimination across the state. The three-day operational planning workshop, held from 23rd to 25th August 2026 at Bafra International Hotel, Kaduna, was supported by the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and brought together key stakeholders to develop a SMART, evidence-based and costed plan for malaria programming in Kano State.

Speaking at the workshop, the Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, stressed the need for the 2027 plan to give greater attention to prevention alongside diagnosis and treatment. He advised stakeholders to revive effective environmental and community-based preventive practices, including appropriate spraying, regular clearing and evacuation of blocked drainages, and improved environmental sanitation to eliminate stagnant water and other mosquito breeding sites.

Professor Ibrahim noted that the fight against malaria requires collective responsibility and sustained action at household, community and government levels, adding that preventing mosquito breeding remains a critical and cost-effective approach to reducing the disease burden. He urged participants to ensure that the operational plan translates evidence, lessons and priorities into practical interventions that can deliver measurable results across the 44 Local Government Areas.

In his remarks, the Acting Programme Manager of the Kano State Malaria Elimination Programme, Dr. Abdullahi Yusuf Koki, commended the commitment of participants and partners towards strengthening malaria programming in the state. He explained that the workshop provided an opportunity to review the 2026 operational plan, assess available evidence and Local Government Area inputs, identify programmatic gaps and develop realistic, evidence-based and costed interventions for 2027. Dr. Koki expressed optimism that the resulting plan would provide a stronger roadmap for coordinated implementation, resource mobilisation and sustained efforts to reduce the malaria burden and advance Kano State towards its malaria elimination goal.

The Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, has called on Nigerians to draw inspiration from the exemplary life and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) by promoting peace, compassion, tolerance and unity as Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Maulud.

Prof. Ibrahim said the occasion provides an opportunity for reflection on the Prophet’s enduring values of love, justice, selflessness and service to humanity, stressing that these virtues are fundamental to building peaceful, united and resilient communities.

He further reaffirmed the commitment of KSPHCMB to ensuring that the people of Kano State continue to have improved access to quality, equitable and people-centred primary healthcare services, noting that healthier communities are critical to the overall development and prosperity of the State.
