TEAM OF BELGIAN SURGEONS AND ANESTHESIOLOGISTS VISIT FEDERAL TEACHING HOSPITAL KATSINA

A team of Belgian Surgeons and Anesthesiologists alongside the Chief Medical Director Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina, Dr. Abubakar Mohammed Mairua during a visit to the facility on Friday June 5th, 2026.

The CMD welcomed and appreciated the team. Also, as part of his mandate in ensuring quality healthcare services in the hospital, the CMD pledged to look towards a possible partnership with the team in organizing fellowship programme for surgeons and anesthesiologists serving in the facility.

INTER-TRIBAL ASSOCIATION PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO THE CMD OF FEDERAL TEACHING HOSPITAL KATSINA

Delegates of the Inter-Tribal Traditional Leaders Association of Nigeria, Katsina State Chapter during a courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director of Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina, Dr. Abubakar Mohammed Mairua in his office on Wednesday 3rd June, 2026.

The delegation led by Special Assistant to the Governor of Katsina State on Non-indigene Matters, Chukwuma Okoye congratulated the CMD on his well deserved appointment and appreciated his efforts in steering the affairs of the hospital since assumption of office.

The CMD expressed his appreciation on the Association's visit, reiterating his administration's commitment to inclusive and accessible healthcare services.
He further pledged on enhancing relationship between the association and the hospital with the view to improving health care services within the institution.

FTHK OBSERVES 2026 WORLD HAND HYGIENE DAY.

Staff of Microbiology Department, Community Medicine Department alongside Infection Prevention and Control Unit (IPC) Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina during the year 2026 World Hand Hygiene Day held on Wednesday 6th May 2026 under the theme "Action saves lives".

The programme was commemorated with a  power walk within the Hospital, sensitization talks on proper hand hygiene across selected departments, hand rub demonstration exercise, following the five moments for hand hygiene established by the World Health Organization (WHO), among other things.

Marked on the 5th of May annually, the event is aimed at educating healthcare workers, as well as care givers on the importance of using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and washing of hands with soap and water to reduce the spread of germs and infectious diseases.

Paediatric Basic Life Support Training and Patient Empowerment At Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina (FTHK)

Seventy-two staff across various Departments/Units of FTHK participated in a 3-day training programme on paediatric Basic Life Support (BLS) and Systematic Assessment Resuscitation Training (StART). The programme, held at the conference hall of FTHK from Monday 27th to Wednesday, 29th, 2026 was facilitated by four trainers: Dr. Ibrahim Salisu, Dr. Aliyu Umar Farinyaro, Dr. Abdurrazaq Alege and Dr. Hamza Aliyu. The porogramme was aimed at equipping participants with up-to-date knowledge and essential skills needed for effective response to pediatric emergencies.

The Coordinator of the Cleft Care Team at FTHK, Dr. Ibrahim Salisu, Consultant Anaesthesiologist, disclosed that the training and empowerment programmes were organised and fully sponsored by Smile Train (ST); a non-governmental organisation that provide free medical and surgical care to patients with cleft lip and palate. During the event,15 indigent mothers of the patients with cleft lip and/or palate benefited with commodities and cash valued at approximately ₦500,000 aimed at helping them establish small-scale businesses and become self reliant. The empowerment programme was graced by the presence of the Smile Train Program Assistant  in Nigeria, Mrs. Adaeze Muonyelu  and, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of FTHK, Dr. Abubakar M. Mairuwa, alongside other members of the Cleft Care Team.

In her remarks, the ST programme assistant expressed her appreciation for the strong partnership with FTHK, which has enabled the provision of free care to more than two hundred patients with cleft lip and/or palate since inception of the collaboration between ST and the hospital.

In his remarks, The CMD thanked smile Train for its consistent support to patients with cleft lip and/or palate as well as for building the capacity of hundreds of the hospital’s staff, etc. He further pledged his full support and continued cooperation with the team.

CMD RECEIVES IN AUDIENCE THE LEADERSHIP OF ASSOCIATION OF RESIDENT DOCTORS (ARD) FTHK BRANCH

The Chief Medical Director, Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina, Dr. Abubakar Mohammed Mairua received the Executives of ARD, Katsina branch led by the president of the association Dr. Doka Abdullahi Ibrahim on Monday, 20th of April 2026.

During the visit, the CMD and the leaders brainstormed on the challenges faced by the association and its members with a view to improving service delivery within the facility.
