SUGARCANE IN PREGNANCY… EAT OR PASS, MAMA?

Mama, sugarcane is not “bad” in pregnancy, but it is something you should take with wisdom and moderation.

Sugarcane is naturally sweet and contains water, minerals, and quick energy. Many mamas enjoy it especially when they feel tired or need something refreshing.

However, the important thing to understand is this:

Sugarcane is still high in natural sugar.

So while it can be enjoyed, too much of it may contribute to:
Unnecessary weight gain
Increased blood sugar levels
Higher risk if you already have or are at risk of gestational diabetes

Mama, especially if you have been told your blood sugar is high or you are at risk, you need to be extra careful with sweet foods like this.

So what is the advice?

You can eat it occasionally
Small portions are better
Do not replace meals with it
Always balance your diet with protein, fibre, and water

Pregnancy is not about restriction, it is about balance and wisdom in your choices.

So mama, sugarcane is not a total “pass,” but it is definitely not something to overdo.

FRIED EGGS VS BOILED EGGS
WHICH IS BETTER IN PREGNANCY?

Mama, both fried eggs and boiled eggs are nutritious during pregnancy, but the healthier choice depends on how they are prepared.

Eggs are a great source of protein, choline, vitamins, and minerals needed for your baby’s brain development and your body’s strength.

Boiled eggs (generally the better option)

Boiled eggs are usually considered healthier in pregnancy because:
No added oil or excess fat
Lower calorie content
Cleaner preparation method
Safer when fully cooked (important in pregnancy)

Fried eggs (still okay, but be mindful)

Fried eggs are also good, but:
They often contain added oil or butter
Can become unhealthy if overcooked or deep fried
Best when cooked with minimal oil and not burnt

Regardless of boiled or fried, eggs should always be fully cooked in pregnancy to reduce the risk of foodborne infections.

Best choice?

Boiled eggs are slightly healthier, but what matters most is:
properly cooked eggs + healthy balance in your diet

Mama, you don’t need to stress. You can enjoy both in moderation.

WHY YOU MAY NOTICE “AIR SOUNDS” FROM YOUR PRIVATE AREA AFTER CHILDBIRTH

(Postpartum VG Gas Explained)

Mama, if you notice a strange “air sound” coming from your private area after giving birth, don’t panic. It is more common than most women realize, and it is not a sign of infection or poor hygiene.

After a vag1!nal delivery, the pelvic floor muscles can become stretched and temporarily weaker. This can allow small pockets of air to get trapped inside the vag!ina1 area and then escape, creating that “wind-like” sound.

This is known as VG gas, and it is usually harmless.

You may notice it more when:
Changing positions
Standing up or sitting down
Exercising or stretching
During movement after lying down
Sometimes during intimacy

In most women, this improves gradually as the body heals and the pelvic floor muscles regain strength.

Pelvic floor exercises (Kegels) can help speed up recovery by strengthening those muscles over time.

However, if this is accompanied by:
Urine or stool leakage
Unusual discharge or bad smell
Pain or discomfort

Please see your healthcare provider for proper assessment.

Mama, childbirth changes the body in many ways, and many of them are temporary. Give yourself grace as you heal.

EVER SEEN “CERVICAL OS CLOSED” ON YOUR SCAN RESULT, MAMA? HERE’S WHAT IT MEANS

Mama, if you have done a scan during pregnancy and you saw the words “cervical os is closed,” please don’t panic.

Let me explain it simply.

The cervical os is just the opening of the cervix, which is the lower part of the womb. During pregnancy, this opening is expected to remain closed so that the baby stays safely inside the womb.

So when your scan says “cervical os closed,” it simply means:
Your cervix is still closed
Your pregnancy is being supported properly
There is no sign that labour is starting at that moment

It is actually a reassuring finding in pregnancy.

Now mama, what keeps it closed?

It is mainly:
Pregnancy hormones
The strength of the cervix
A thick mucus plug that seals the opening like a protective cover

As pregnancy gets closer to delivery, the cervix begins to soften and open. At that time, the mucus plug may come out. This may appear as:
Thick mucus discharge
Sometimes slightly blood-stained discharge (show)

This can be one of the early signs that the body is preparing for labour, especially when you are close to your due date.

But if you see this very early in pregnancy or with pain or bleeding, you should report immediately.

Mama, a closed cervical os in pregnancy is normal and good.

Keep going for your antenatal care so everything can be properly monitored.

SAFE DELIVERY IS YOUR PORTION, MAMA

Mama, I want you to hear this clearly today.

Safe delivery is not something only a few women are “lucky” to have. It is something your body can do, and something we prepare for together.

But here is the truth no one tells you enough:

A safe delivery does not happen by chance. It happens through care, awareness, and good preparation during pregnancy.

When you attend your antenatal clinic, when you do your scans, when you take your prescribed medications, when you eat well, rest well, and report unusual symptoms early… you are actively working towards a safer delivery.

And yes, sometimes complications can happen, but early detection and proper care make a big difference.

So mama, don’t carry fear into your pregnancy.

Carry knowledge. Carry preparation. Carry consistency.

You are not powerless in this journey.

Safe delivery is your portion, and you can increase your chances every step of the way.

Fruits That Keep You Hydrated in Pregnancy

DO THIS WHEN YOUR WATER BREAKS, MAMA

Mama, if your water suddenly breaks, I need you to stay calm first. Do not panic.

Your “water” is the fluid around your baby. When it breaks, it may come as a gush or a slow leak from your private area.

Here is what you should do immediately:

Stay calm and don’t panic
Note the time it started
Observe the color of the fluid (clear, pale, greenish, or bloody)
Put on a clean pad (do not use a tampon)
Do not insert anything into your private area
Avoid bathing in a tub or going into water
Go to the hospital immediately or call your healthcare provider

Mama, even if you are not having pain yet, you still need to go to the hospital as soon as your water breaks.

Because once the water breaks, there is a risk of infection if labour does not start soon.

Also, if you notice:
Green or foul smelling fluid
Reduced baby movements
Heavy bleeding

Please go urgently without delay.

Mama, this is one of those moments where timing matters a lot. Don’t wait at home.

Get to the hospital so you and your baby can be properly monitored.

DATES FRUITS FOR LABOUR PREPARATION

Mama, let’s talk about dates fruit and pregnancy.

Dates fruit is a natural sweet fruit that many pregnant women are told about, especially as they get closer to delivery.

Some studies suggest that eating dates in late pregnancy may help prepare the body for labour by supporting cervical ripening and giving natural energy.

But mama, let me be clear:

Dates fruit is not a magic trigger for labour. It does not start labour on its own.

What it can do is:
Provide natural energy
Support healthy digestion due to fibre
Help you feel fuller and reduce unhealthy snacking
May support the body in late pregnancy when taken regularly

When should it be used?
Dates are usually recommended in late pregnancy, from around 36 weeks onward, not early pregnancy.

How many should you take?
About 4 to 6 dates per day is commonly suggested
Take it in moderation, not excess
You can eat it as a snack or with other foods

Mama, if you have diabetes or high blood sugar in pregnancy, you should be extra careful because dates are naturally high in sugar.

So what is the bottom line?

Dates fruit can be part of a healthy late pregnancy diet, but it is not a guarantee for labour or fast delivery.

Always focus on antenatal care, good nutrition, and medical guidance.

PREGNANCY IS NOT A LICENSE TO OVEREAT, MAMA

Mama, one of the biggest pregnancy myths is the idea that you must “eat for two.”

The truth is, you are not feeding another adult. You are nourishing a growing baby who needs quality nutrition, not double portions.

Pregnancy is not an excuse to eat anything and everything without limits. Excessive weight gain during pregnancy can increase the risk of complications such as gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, difficult delivery, and a larger-than-average baby.

Instead of focusing on eating more, focus on eating better.

Choose:
Fruits and vegetables
Protein rich foods like eggs, fish, beans, and lean meat
Whole grains
Healthy fats
Plenty of water

Yes, pregnancy can make you hungrier, and it is perfectly okay to have healthy snacks when needed. But try to listen to your body’s hunger cues rather than using pregnancy as a reason to constantly overeat.

Remember, the goal is not to eat for two.

The goal is to eat wisely for two.

A healthy pregnancy is not about the quantity of food on your plate. It is about the quality of the food you choose.

Have you ever heard someone tell a pregnant woman to “eat for two”?
