You hear it all the time:

Know your numbers.

But what numbers are we actually talking about?

One of the most important numbers to know is your blood pressure.

Blood pressure is the force your blood pushes against the walls of your arteries every time your heart pumps.

It has two numbers:

The top number is called systolic pressure.
This is the pressure when your heart beats.

The bottom number is called diastolic pressure.
This is the pressure when your heart rests.

Normal blood pressure is below **120/80 mmHg**.

Blood pressure is considered elevated when the systolic number is between **120 and 129**.

Stage 1 hypertension begins from 130–139 systolic or 80–89 diastolic.

Stage 2 hypertension begins from 140/90 mmHg and above.

A hypertensive crisis can happen at 180/120 mmHg and above and needs urgent medical attention.

Knowing your numbers is not just a phrase.

It is one of the simplest ways to catch silent health risks early.

If you are not checking your blood pressure, you are guessing it.

Your body is not the same every year.

What you could handle easily at 25 may not be the same at 35, 45, or beyond.

As you age, your metabolism changes.
Your blood vessels change.
Your muscle mass changes.
Your vital organs change.
And your risk of disease can quietly increase over time.

The problem is that many of these changes do not announce themselves.

You may still feel fine.

You may still look fine.

But inside the body, blood pressure may be rising, blood sugar may be changing, unhealthy lipids may be building up, and organs may be under pressure without obvious symptoms.

That is why routine health checks matter.

Not because you are sick.

But because your body is constantly changing, and awareness helps you stay ahead.

Health education, screening, and early diagnosis are not meant to create fear.

They are there to help prevent complications before they begin.

Do not wait until your body is forced to get your attention.

Pay attention early.

Some of the most expensive health problems people face are conditions that could have been discovered years earlier.

But they were never checked for.

In this short, Dr. Bolu shares a pattern she has seen many times: people who proudly say they never go to the hospital, only to show up when a silent condition has already caused serious damage.

One person’s first hospital visit happened when years of silent hypertension had already damaged his kidneys.

And interestingly, many of these events happen shortly after another birthday celebration.

Birthdays usually come with cake, photos, messages, and beautiful memories.

But what if the most valuable birthday gift you gave yourself was not just another celebration?

What if it was the decision to live longer and healthier by simply checking the body carrying you through life?

Do not wait until your first hospital visit becomes an emergency.

Make your birthday your health reset point.

Hypertension is one of the most ignored health conditions in this part of the world.

And yet, many emergency clinics see hypertensive emergencies almost every single day.

The dangerous part?

High blood pressure often causes no pain.
No warning.
No dramatic signal.

Most people feel completely fine until complications like stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure suddenly happen.

That is why hypertension is called the silent killer.

If you are not checking your blood pressure regularly, you are not managing it.

You are guessing it.

Early detection can save your life and help prevent complications before they happen.

Do not wait until your body is forced to sound the alarm.

Your weight alone does not tell the full story about your health.

That is why you need to know your BMI and your waist circumference.

BMI means Body Mass Index. It is a simple screening tool used to estimate whether your weight is appropriate for your height.

A normal BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9.
A BMI between 25 and 29.9 is considered overweight.
Higher BMI ranges may fall into different classes of obesity.

But BMI does not directly measure body fat or show where fat is distributed in the body.

That is why waist circumference also matters.

Together, BMI and waist circumference can help identify people who may be at higher risk of health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoarthritis, and other weight-related diseases.

Knowing these numbers is not about shame.

It is about awareness.

The earlier you understand your health risks, the earlier you can make changes that protect your body for the long term.

Not all health risks come with obvious symptoms.

Sometimes, the danger builds quietly in your blood vessels over time.

In this short, Dr. Bolu explains why checking your blood lipid levels is an important part of knowing your numbers.

Unhealthy lipids can gradually accumulate in the blood, narrowing and blocking the arteries that supply vital organs.

When blood flow is reduced, the affected organs are deprived of oxygen and nutrients.

If this happens in the heart, it can lead to a heart attack.
If it happens in the brain, it can lead to a stroke or other serious complications.

This is why a simple lipid profile is a good place to start.

As you age, your body changes in ways you may not always see or feel. Your arteries may stiffen, your metabolism may slow down, muscle mass may reduce, and unhealthy fats may build up more easily in your blood vessels.

These changes happen gradually and often without symptoms.

Knowing your numbers is not about fear.

It is about early awareness, better decisions, and taking control of your health before problems become emergencies.

Your birthday should not only be about cake, pictures, and celebration.

It should also be a moment to ask important questions about your health.

How is your blood pressure trending?
What has your blood sugar been doing quietly over time?
How are your heart, liver, and kidneys?
Are you carrying hidden health risks into the next year of your life?

In this short, Dr. Bolu explains why healthcare today should not be doctor-driven alone. You are not a passive recipient β€” you are the main driver of your health journey.

Aging with silence can lead to late diagnoses and complications.

But aging with awareness helps you stay ahead.

So before your next birthday, commit to doing your basic health checks β€” not because you are sick, but because you want to stay well for longer.

Because the real meaning of celebrating life is protecting the one you already have.

Most people don’t ignore their health because they don’t care.

They ignore it because the signs feel small, manageable, or β€œnot serious enough” yet.

But your body often whispers before it screams.

In this video, Dr. Bolu reminds you why preventive health is not only for older people or sick people β€” it is for everyone, at every stage of life.

Stop waiting until discomfort becomes unbearable before you act.

Listen earlier.
Act sooner.
Prevent rather than repair.

Your health deserves attention before it becomes an emergency.
