I see most Nigerians will say I have ‘sunburn’ , meanwhile its melasma.

Let me explain this to you to stop the confusion. They might be a bit interwoven but the difference is their CAUSE and TREATMENT.

Melasma causes skin discoloration, which can appear dark, brown etc and it’s mostly common in women. Don’t forget Melasma is a type of hyperpigmentation (refer to old post on my page that answers why hyperpigmentation occurs). It’s usually starts from

Sunburn or sun damage is not caused by hormonal changes, it’s always fluid on the top layer of the skin (the epidermis) Unlike melasma that’s goes deeper in the skin, this makes treating sunburn easier and faster than melasma.
