What Are Lung Diseases?

Lung diseases are conditions that affect how well your lungs work. Your lungs help you breathe in oxygen and remove carbon dioxide from your body. When they are damaged or inflamed, breathing becomes difficult and the body doesn’t get enough oxygen.

Common Types of Lung Diseases
Asthma – Narrowing and swelling of airways that cause wheezing and shortness of breath.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) – Long-term damage that makes breathing progressively harder.

Pneumonia – Infection that fills the lungs with fluid or pus.

Tuberculosis (TB) – A serious bacterial infection affecting the lungs.

Lung Cancer – Abnormal growth of cells in the lungs.

Major Causes
Smoking and secondhand smoke
Air pollution and dust
Occupational exposure to chemicals
Infections (bacterial, viral, fungal)
Genetic factors
Weak immune system

Common Symptoms

âš  Persistent cough
âš  Shortness of breath
âš  Chest tightness or pain
âš  Wheezing sound when breathing
âš  Frequent chest infections
âš  Coughing up blood (in severe cases)

If symptoms last more than two weeks, medical evaluation is important.

Prevention Tips
âś” Avoid smoking and smoky environments
âś” Exercise regularly to strengthen lungs
âś” Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables
âś” Get vaccinated (e.g., flu vaccine)
âś” Use protective masks in dusty environments
âś” Seek early treatment for infections

The Lungs & Why They Matter
What Are the Lungs?

The lungs are two spongy organs located in your chest. They are responsible for breathing—bringing oxygen into the body and removing carbon dioxide.

Without healthy lungs, every organ in your body suffers because oxygen is essential for life.

How the Lungs Work

When you breathe in:
Air enters through the nose or mouth
Travels down the windpipe (trachea)
Moves into smaller airways (bronchi)
Reaches tiny air sacs called alveoli

The alveoli transfer oxygen into the blood, and carbon dioxide is removed when you breathe out.

❤️ Importance of Pulse Rate

Your pulse rate shows how fast your heart is pumping blood around your body. It is a simple but powerful sign of your overall health.

đź«€ Why Pulse Rate Is Important:

Helps detect heart problems early

Shows how your body responds to exercise

Indicates stress, fever, or dehydration

Monitors fitness level

Guides medical treatment in emergencies

A normal resting pulse for adults is 60–100 beats per minute.

📌 Health Tip: Check your pulse regularly. A very fast, very slow, or irregular pulse should be medically evaluated.

Your pulse is your heart’s signal — listen to it.
