TRYING TO CONCEIVE? THESE FOODS MAY NEED YOUR ATTENTION! 🤰🏽❤️
Dear TTC Mum, while you’re praying, tracking your cycle and hoping for that positive pregnancy test, don’t forget that your everyday food choices matter too! 🥰
Here are 7 foods and drinks to limit or handle with care while trying to conceive. 👇
1️⃣ High-mercury fish 🐟
Some fish contain high levels of mercury, which can harm a developing baby’s nervous system. Choose low-mercury options like salmon, sardines and tilapia instead.
2️⃣ Too much caffeine ☕
Love coffee, strong tea or energy drinks? Keep track of your intake. When trying to conceive, a cautious approach is to stay below 200 mg of caffeine daily, especially because you may become pregnant before you know it.
3️⃣ Alcohol 🍷
If you’re trying to conceive, avoiding alcohol is the safest choice, particularly because early pregnancy can happen before a missed period.
4️⃣ Sugary drinks and excessive added sugar 🥤
Frequent sugary drinks and too much added sugar can make it harder to maintain a balanced diet. Choose water more often and enjoy whole fruits.
5️⃣ Trans fats and excessive fried or ultra-processed foods 🍟
Reduce foods high in trans fats, such as some commercial baked goods and foods made with partially hydrogenated oils. Build your meals around vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains, nuts and healthy fats.
6️⃣ Raw or undercooked animal foods 🍳
Undercooked eggs, meat, fish and unpasteurized milk can expose you to infections. Food safety matters even before you get your positive test!
7️⃣ Unverified fertility herbs and detox mixtures
Please be careful with herbal fertility mixtures, cleansing teas and products promising to boost ovulation or open blocked tubes. Natural does not automatically mean safe, and some herbs may affect hormones, medicines or an early pregnancy.
