Today is my 14th diaversary 🎈

Diabetes has taken a lot from me, mentally and physically it can feel like a daily uphill battle. At on point, just thinking about my condition would make me cry for hours.

Slowly but surely the tide changed and now it’s actually hard to remember the girl who had a constant stream and sadness and anger running through her. I still have my down days/weeks but on a day like today I want to remember that I’m a survivor and acknowledge the good things I’ve gained from diabetes.

Things 17 year old Temi would have not believed or cared about. But we’re here and things will only get better ❤️‍🩹

This time last month I was in Barcelona 🇪🇸 and as much as I love travelling, my sugars did not this day! Rollercoaster was an understatement. I had 2 hypos and my highest reading was 19 😦 after 14 years of diabetes, we just expect the unexpected and keep our hypo snacks and spares on us at all times.

Summer is around the corner which means hot days and even hotter holidays ✈️

I’m always on the look out for ways to make my life with diabetes easier so I wanted to test of insulin coolers whilst I was away in San Diego in 33 degree heat 🌡️

Times of joy and celebration used to be hard for me because they usually involved eating food I was “not allowed to eat” and either those around me or my own internal monologue would remind me of that. If I did ignore it the guilt would be overwhelming.

After many years of this guilt cycle, I’ve broken it and want to make sure anyone else who is currently experiencing the same thoughts breaks it too.

So eat the Easter egg if you want it, life is far too short to feel shame over the things we cannot control. And a life without chocolate?? A sad one indeed.
