She identified and contained Nigeria's first Ebola patient despite pressure from a foreign government to release him - preventing a major outbreak in Africa's most populous country - but lost her life in the process. Through DRASA, we continue her legacy of protecting public health.

What if we could see IPC improvement before an outbreak does? At the 2026 National Conference on Infection Control, the Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust shared findings from its work across seven primary healthcare centers in Lagos, where structured assessments, targeted interventions, and continuous monitoring helped identify gaps and track improvement. The lesson is simple: you cannot improve what you do not measure. Data helps us make better decisions, strengthen systems, and create safer care.

The health challenges we face today do not exist in isolation.

From zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial resistance to climate related threats, food safety challenges, and future pandemics, the connections between human, animal, and environmental health are becoming impossible to ignore.

This is why One Health has become increasingly critical to global health discussions.

It calls for us to look beyond individual sectors and understand how they intersect, collaborate, and shape the health of our communities and our planet.

The future of health security depends on our ability to work across these connections.

Youth engagement is no longer optional. It is a strategic requirement for strengthening Nigeria’s One Health system and national health security.

Young people bring fresh ideas, technical expertise, innovation, and community reach that can strengthen surveillance, research, risk communication, emergency preparedness, and response.

Building a resilient One Health system means creating meaningful spaces for young people to participate, lead, and shape the solutions that protect our communities.

At DRASA, youth are not just part of the future of One Health. They are part of its present.

Building a System That Can Sustain Youth Leadership

Good ideas need institutions to survive. At the 2-Day One Health Strategic Plan Gap Analysis and Validation Workshop on Youth Engagement, Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust, alongside the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), National One Health Coordinating Unit, government agencies, academia, youth-led organizations, civil society, and development partners, helped shape practical solutions for sustained youth engagement.

The proposed Youth Taskforce, research coalition, mentorship programme, and youth engagement framework will help turn young people’s potential into lasting contributions to the health security of our communities.

The work does not end with the workshop. Let’s turn these commitments into action and build a One Health system where every young person has the opportunity to contribute, innovate, and lead.

Giving Young People a Seat at the Policy Table

Young Nigerians are already contributing to disease surveillance, research, innovation, and community engagement, yet their voices have often been missing from key decisions.

At A 2-Day One Health Strategic Plan Gap Analysis and Validation Workshop on Youth Engagement, Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust, alongside the National One Health Coordinating Unit, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), academia, youth-led organizations, civil society, and development partners, helped drive commitments to strengthen youth participation in governance, policy, research, and decision-making.

A stronger voice for young people means a stronger future for Nigeria’s health security.

The gloves were on. But were they enough?

During the Turn-A-State-Orange (TASO) training by DRASA Health Trust at Emene Health Centre in Enugu State, healthcare workers reinforced their awareness that gloves can tear, leak, or become contaminated. They are protection, not a replacement for hand hygiene.

The lesson: safer care starts with clean hands, before and after every glove use.
