NiCare Empowers Communication Officers with Intensive AI Training for Enhanced Public Engagement
The Niger State Contributory Health Agency -NiCare has successfully concluded a three-day intensive training programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for its Social Media and Communication Officers, aimed at strengthening public communication and digital engagement across the state.
The training, held from May 11th to 13th, 2026, at the NiCare Conference Room in Minna, was themed: “Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Effective Public Communication and Digital Engagement.”
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary, NiCare, Sulayman Abu-bakr, emphasized the importance of combining AI innovation with human creativity and responsibility in public communication.
According to him, while AI tools can significantly enhance speed and efficiency, human review remains essential in ensuring that communication outputs are natural, relatable, credible, and aligned with institutional values.
Speaking at the opening session, the Director Administration, Hajiya Ramatu Ismail, encouraged participants to remain focused and maximize the opportunity provided by the agency to improve their professional capacity in the evolving digital communication landscape.
The training was facilitated by Justina Asishana of the Media Mentors Network and featured twelve comprehensive modules covering AI fundamentals, prompt engineering, content development, digital storytelling, and practical applications of AI in public communication.
Participants were introduced to practical AI-powered tools including ChatGPT, Gemini, Grammarly, Canva AI, Otter.ai, and CapCut, alongside tailored communication strategies for platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
The training also featured interactive group sessions where participants were guided on how to generate different forms of communication materials using various AI tools for content writing, graphics design, transcription, video editing, and social media engagement.
The final sessions focused on responsible AI usage, data privacy, and fact-checking, with participants advised to always verify AI-generated content and protect sensitive information.
Participants expressed appreciation to the Executive Secretary for providing the opportunity to build their digital communication skills and exposing them to emerging technologies that would enhance their productivity and effectiveness.
They also pledged to apply the knowledge acquired during the training in promoting accurate, timely, and engaging healthcare communication across Niger State.
The programme concluded with presentations and certificate awards, marking another significant step in NiCare’s commitment to strengthening institutional communication and improving public engagement through innovation and technology.
