CHPRBN CHAMPIONS REINTRODUCTION OF BCHS DEGREE AT NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA (NOUN)

In a strategic move to bolster the nation’s primary healthcare system, a high-level delegation from the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN), led by Professor Sabo, paid an advocacy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Uduma Oji Uduma of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) at its Abuja headquarters.
The delegation, representing the Registrar/CEO of CHPRBN, Ass. Prof. Bashir Idris (Lifidin Jama'a), successfully secured a commitment from the university to mount the Bachelor of Community Health Science (BCHS) degree programme, with studies expected to commence by January 2027.
The advocacy visit was a resounding success. The management of NOUN pledged their support and agreed to mount the BCHS degree programme. The university leadership noted that the commencement of the programme will address a critical need for continuous professional development within the community health sector.
The CHPRBN team also demonstrated their appreciation for the collaborative spirit shown by the university's leadership, presenting a gift of NUC-branded bags to the Vice Chancellor. This gesture served as a testimony to the Registrar's courage and the board's profound appreciation for the University's commitment to advancing community health education.

The introduction of the BCHS degree at NOUN will empower our health workers with the knowledge and skills needed to drive the achievement of Universal Health Coverage, and all without disrupting the essential services they provide in their communities.
