Many times, people begin to have reduced vision which may not be obvious during the daytime, but becomes at night.
Such condition is called ๐ก๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ ๐๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ฑ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐. Night blindness is not really a disease on its own, but symptom of other eye conditions. It usually show up as:
โช๏ธDifficulty seeing in dim or dark environments.
โช๏ธTrouble adjusting when moving from bright light to darkness
โช๏ธGlare from headlights or street lights at night.
Yes! It's normal not to see clear at nights, but when your night vision becomes worse than before or worse than normal, that becomes a problem - ๐ก๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ ๐๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ฑ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐.
In some cases, there can even be a total loss of vision at night.

Conditions causing night blindness generally fall into two categories:
โช๏ธNot enough light getting to your eye (retina)
โช๏ธYour retina not working properly

โช๏ธCataract
This is the clouding of the lens. When cataract is present, the cloudiness reduces the amount of light entering the eye, making one not to see clearly. So Imagine the case of night vision, where light is already limited.
โช๏ธGlaucoma
This is when the intra-ocular pressure of the eye becomes higher than normal, which can affect vision and night sight.
โช๏ธLaser vision correction surgery
Some of this type of surgeries, when not managed well can cause this as an after effect.

โช๏ธRetina genetic diseases
Conditions like Cone-rod dystrophy and retinitis pigmentosa. Due to genetic mutations during the formation of life, the retina lacks the ability to properly trap light rays needed for good day and night vision.
โช๏ธ Vitamin A deficiency (very important)
This is the most common cause of night blindness. Vitamin A is one of the most important vitamins for eye health. Physiologically, the retina (located at the back of the eye) contains two important photoreceptors: The rods (for night vision) and the cones (for daytime vision).
These photoreceptors trap light rays entering the eye. To function properly, they need retinol and retinal, which are supplied by vitamin A.
When Vitamin A is insufficient:
Rods (responsible for night vision) cannot trap light properly, night vision becomes poor.

โช๏ธWhen this happen, visit your eye doctor for proper examination. This will help identify the exact cause
โช๏ธ If it is Vitamin A deficiency, start vitamin A supplement and consume foods rich in vitamin A, such as leafy vegetables, liver, fish, milk and eggs.
