UNIMEDTH Hosts Ondo State Consultant on Pharmaceutical and Medical Investment for Familiarization Visit

The University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH),Ondo, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, received the Ondo State Government's Senior Consultant on Pharmaceutical and Medical Investment, Dr. Samuel Oluwaoromipin Adekola, on a familiarization visit to the hospital.

The visit, held at the Chief Medical Director's Conference Room, provided an opportunity to Dr. Adekola to interact with the hospital's management team and convey the warm regards of the Governor of Ondo State, the captain of OUR EASE, Hon.( Dr.) Luckky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to the management and staff of UNIMED Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Adekola Commended the Governor's political will and strategic commitment to strengthening the state's health sector, noting that the commitment was reflected in the recent approval for the procurement of critical diagnostic equipment for health facilities across Ondo State.

He further disclosed that Governor had approved a landmark initiatives for the establishment of the Ondo State Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Hub, a deliberate policy intervention aimed at securing the state's medicine supply chain, deepen local pharmaceutical manufacturing and positioning Ondo State as a regional center for health innovation.

The Senior Consultant emphasized the need for for a robust partnership between UNIMEDTH and the Ondo State Drugs and Commodities Management Agency ( OSDHCMA), describing the agency as the backbone of the state's medicine security architecture through affordable procurement and effective distribution of medicines.

He further stressed that the hospital's clinical expertise, research capacity and operational experience would be indispensable to transforming the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Hub in to a centre of excellence.

He noted that the familiarization visit formed the broader agenda of repositioning Ondo State's health sector for greater efficiency, innovation and sustainability.

Responding, the Chief Medical Director of the UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Professor Michael Olumide Gbala, appreciated Dr. Adekola and his team for the visit and requested that the Governor's commendable efforts be conveyed to him on behalf of the hospitals management.

Professor Gbala acknowledged the Governor's contributions to personel development, equipment provision and infrastructural expansion in the hospital, noting that a significant proportion of the hospital's workforce are products of the Institution.

The CMD also called for concerted efforts to combat the circulation of fake and substandard medicine in the country, stressing that deaths associated with counterfeit drugs constitute a serious public health threat.

He described Dr. Adekola as one of the pride of Ondo State and calledfor sustainable solutions to the manace of fake Drugs.

Professor Gbala assured the Senior Consultant of the Management's full support for the proposed initiatives and expressed appreciation for the Governor's continued commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Ondo State.

UNIMEDTH Takes Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign to Sabo Market, Ondo

In furtherance of the 2026 World Breastfeeding Week Campaign, the UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Ondo took its awareness campaign to Sabo Market, Ondo, where healthcare professionals engaged traders, nursing mothers, pregnant women and members of the public on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding.

The awareness rally reinforced this year's theme, "Breastfeeding For a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works," emphasizing the numerous health, nutritional and developmental benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby's life.

The participants were also educated on the need for continued breastfeeding alongside appropriate complementary feeding to ensure healthy growth and development.

The outreach reflects UNIMEDTH's commitment to promoting maternal and child health through sustained public education and community engagement during the 2026 Breastfeeding Week.

The Heath Information Management (HIM) Department of the UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Ondo City, under the experienced and visionary leadership of its pioneer Head of Department, Mr. Kubolaje Ojo Famujimi, has continued to strengthen the foundation of quality healthcare delivery through efficient heath information management and professional record services.

From the inception of the Mother and Child hospital in 2012 to its transformation in to University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Mr. Famujimi has provided exceptional leadership, ensuring that patient's health records remain accurate, confidential, secure and readily accessible to support timely clinical decision - making and patient - centred care.

The Department core responsibilities include: Medical Records Management, Health Information Documentation, Disease Coding and Classification, Confidentiality and Data Security, Records Retriever, Health Data Collection and Analysis as well as Electronic Heath Records ( EHR) management.

Committed to seamless healthcare delivery, the department operates through a strong inter- unit collaboration across the hospital. These include the Obstetrics and Gynecology HIM Unit, the Accident and Emergency HIM Unit, as well as well as dedicated HIM units in the Dental and Physiotherapy Department and other clinical areas within the Institution.

Through professional, innovation, teamwork and unwavering dedication, these units work assiduously to provide timely and reliable heath information services, enhance operational efficiency and support the hospital's mission of delivering safe, efficient and world - class healthcare services to every patient at UNIMED Teaching Hospital.
