UNIOSUN CMD DESCRIBES LATE DR. DANIEL LAOSEBIKAN AS A BUILDER OF GENERATIONS.

The Management Committee led by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi was among the dignitaries from all walks of life globally who attended the "Night of Tribute* in honor of a Medical Elder, DR. Pa Daniel Aremu Laosebikan who joined his ancestors on 29TH march, 2026.

While delivering his tribute Dr. Babatunde Afolabi stated that during pa Laosebikan's lifetime, he was always ready to show support whenever it is needed.

He narrated all the fatherly roles he played in his life adding that he was a teacher who taught the medical generation that every procedures carrie a lesson.

The Chief Medical Director said the history of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo will never forget the impacts of the great achiever

Pa Daniel Laosebikan was generally described as someone who's interest is always on serving God and promoting humanity.

CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTOR
TO THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY ON THE CELEBRATION OF 2026 ELD -EL- KABIRL

On behalf of the Management Committee and the entire staff of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo. I felicitate with all our Muslim staff patients, and their families on the occasion of this year’s Eid-Kabir.

Eid- Kabirl reminds us of the profound values of sacrifice, obedience, and unwavering faith exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim It is a time to reflect on selflessness, submission to the will of Allah, and compassion for humanity—values that resonate deeply with our calling as healthcare workers.

In our hospital, we are privileged to work alongside Muslim brothers and sisters whose dedication, discipline, and spirit of service enrich our institution daily. Your commitment to duty embody the true meaning of service to humanity.

This season calls for extension of kindness, share with those in need and strengthen the bonds of unity among all. As we provide care to our patients regardless of faith or background, let the spirit of Eid inspire us to serve with greater empathy and patience.

I acknowledge the unique challenge of celebrating while on duty in the wards, theatres, and emergency Units. Your sacrifice ensures that lives are saved and comfort is given, even on sacred days. For this, the hospital is deeply grateful.

HOSPITAL GRAND ROUND: THE CMD, UNIOSUN TEACHING HOSPITAL OSOGBO DESCRIBES JOB DESCRIPTION AND HEALTHY INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP A CRITICAL TOOLS FOR REDUCING MORTALITY AND MORBIDITY IN HOSPITALS

The Chief Medical Director, UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo Dr. Babatunde Afolabi has emphasized the importance of clear job descriptions and healthy interpersonal relationships among healthcare workers as critical tools for reducing mortality and morbidity in hospitals.

He said this at the monthly hospital Grand Round organized by the hospital to enlighten members of staff on the topic " Job Description and Interpersonal Relationship: A way to prevent Mortality and Morbidity in the hospital" which was delivered by a Public Health physician, Dr. Adeniyi Oginni.

According to him, health care is a team sport which cannot be achieved in isolation except through effective team work among members of staff. " How we relate with one another, how we communicate,respect and support each other across cadres determines whether the knowledge translates into better outcomes" he said.

While speaking on job description, Dr. Afolabi revealed that clarity of roles is the foundation of accountability, explaining that when every staff member understands their job description clearly, role ambiguity will be eliminated and duplication of roles will also be reduced.

Also speaking during the session, the guest speaker , Dr. Adeniyi Oginni noted that confusion over professional roles, poor communication and unhealthy workplace relationships often contribute to medical errors, delays in patient management and avoidable complications in healthcare facilities.

According to him, clearly defined job responsibilities help healthcare workers understand their duties, improve accountability and promote teamwork in patient care delivery.

Dr. Oginni further explained that when every member of the healthcare team understands their role and respects the contributions of others, patient outcomes improve significantly

While speaking on the importance of good interpersonal relationships among staff, the speaker disclosed that interpersonal relationships encourages teamwork, improves communication, reduces work place conflict as well as enhances patients safety, satisfaction and compliance to medication by patients.

In conclusion, the lecturer explained that a clear job description and healthy Interpersonal relationships are essential components of quality health care delivery which improve communication, accountability, teamwork and patient safety, he therefore encouraged the hospital to promote proper staff role definition, effective communication, teamwork and continuous professional relationship trainings.

In his vote of thanks, the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of the hospital, Dr. Olufemi Ala appreciated and commended the guest speaker for a detailed teaching, reiterating the institution’s commitment to promoting a healthy working environment that will promote quality health care service delivery and improve clinical outcomes in the hospital.

2026 WORLD FAMILY DOCTORS DAY: DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY MEDICINE, UNIOSUN TEACHING HOSPITAL, OSOGBO CELEBRATES IN GRAND STYLE.

Family Doctors in UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Osogbo joined their counterparts in the world to celebrate the 2026 World Family Doctor Day.

In a goodwill message by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi to congratulate the Department on this year's occasion, he said a Family Physicians and healthcare leaders have a collective responsibility to advocate for healthcare systems that integrate innovation responsibly while protecting the humanity of medical practice, Digital health policies must prioritize patient-centred care, equitable access, ethical standards and confidentiality.

Dr. Babatunde urge the family Medicine Doctors to reflect on this year’s theme and recommit themselves to the enduring principles that define Family Medicine such as compassion, continuity, comprehensiveness, professionalism, collaboration, and community-oriented care.

He said further that, the Technology will continue to advance healthcare delivery without eroding empathy.
and innovation to strengthen human connection rather than weaken it, adding that a
patients always find in Family Physicians not merely competent clinicians, but trusted healers, advocates, counsellors, and partners in health.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Family Medicine Department of the hospital, Dr. Omowonuola Shonibare commended the Family Doctors for their sacrifices and commitment to passionate care in the delivery of quality health care, stressing that their sacrifices , teamwork and commitment in promoting preventative health care and early diagnosis of patients did not go unnoticed.

Dr. Shonibare revealed that family doctors' are committed to passionate care, continuous care of patients and preservation of the human aspect of Medicine,she therefore urged them all to do their work with care and love.

While describing family physicians as the first point of contact for many patients, Dr. Valeria Adefila disclosed that their commitment to compassionate care has continued to improve healthcare outcomes,
applauding members of the Department of Family Medicine for their contributions to quality healthcare service delivery, training of medical students and resident doctors, as well as community health outreach programmes.

"Family Medicine is dynamic, it is the most in-depth in taking care of patients " she said. She further encouraged all not to lose touch of treating patients compassionately.

One of the stakeholders of the Department, Dr. Michael Odewale also applauded the Family Physicians for their hardwork and unwavering dedication in promoting health care services in the hospital, adding that they are great contributors to effective healthcare service delivery.

He however charged them to always live a life that will always impact the lives of people positively as they are front liners in the health sector.

Dr. Abdulwasiu Kehinde also saluted the courage of all the Family Doctors, reminding them that they have great roles to play in the lives of any patients they may come across therefore they must play their roles effectively and compassionately.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. Babatunde Oderinde revealed that Family Physicians are pacesetters in the digital world, he therefore appealed to all to learn to show compassion when taking care of patients. " Reduce aggression towards patients, as a Family Medicine Doctor, you must do everything to alleviate patients pains because patients heal faster when shown compassion" , he said.

Good will messages were said by registrars and resident doctors present at the occasion.

World Family Doctor Day is celebrated annually on May 19 to recognise the important role of family doctors and primary healthcare teams in strengthening healthcare systems worldwide.

2026 INTERNATIONAL NURSES WEEK: CMD, UNIOSUN TEACHING HOSPITAL OSOGBO, COMMENDS NURSES FOR THEIR DEDICATION AND RESILIENCE.

The Chief Medical Director, UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Osogbo, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi has commended and appreciated all the nurses in the hospital for their unwavering commitments to promoting quality health care .

This was disclosed at a ceremony organized to mark the 2026 International Nurses Week Celebration and to honor all the nurses at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Osogbo for their dedication, resilience and contributions to nursing professions and healthcare delivery.

In his goodwill message, the CMD described nurses as the heart beat and backbone of the hospital noting that their compassion, professionalism and sacrifices continue to save lives daily. He added that nursing is not just a profession but a calling that demands sacrifice, skills and a heart for humanity.

"As a Management, we do not take your sacrifices for granted,we recognize the long hours of emotional toll and the risk you bear to keep our patients safe" he said

While honoring all the dedicated nursing staff who serve as the backbone of the hospital, Dr. Afolabi promised continuous commitment and support in the areas of professional and welfare development from the Management

Also speaking at the occasion, the Director of Administration, Dr. Oladepo Owolade also disclosed that nurses are not just caregivers, they are the heart of healthcare and the backbone of our academic mission . He added that nurses are crucial in ensuring the safety and high quality of care in a teaching hospital environment because they teach, they research, and they heal stressing that the Management sees their sacrifices and values their impact.

The Director of Nursing Service, Mrs Beatrice Anihuntodun also speaking at the event appreciated the Management of the hospital for their unrelenting support, she praised the nurses for maintaining high standards of care and supporting the hospital's vision of excellent service delivery.

Mrs Anihuntodun further encouraged all nurses to learn from Florence Nightingale in Nursing practices by emulating her courage, vision and legacies adding that this will help transform the nursing profession as a global one.

Describing nurses as great and caring, the Chairman of National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), UTH CHAPTER, Comrade Abiodun Olaniran said that nursing is a calling that demands sacrifice and skills therefore nurses must be ready to stand as an advocate, caregivers, teachers and comforters to improve patients outcomes and promote clinical expertise. He encouraged younger nurses to uphold the ethics of the profession and embrace continuous learning and teamwork

While speaking on the topic "Florence Nightingale: A Leader to Follow" which is the theme for this year's Nurses Week, Dr.Mrs. Elizabeth Olubunmi Ojo said the theme serves as a reminder for nurses to emulate Florence Nightingale’s exemplary leadership, discipline, and dedication to humanity. She encouraged nurses to remain committed to ethical practices and continuous professional development despite challenges confronting the health sector.

According to her, nurses must be critical thinkers because they play critical roles not only in patient care but also in health education, disease prevention, and community development. She added that the profession requires empathy, resilience, and teamwork to meet the growing healthcare needs of society.

Dr. Ojo further revealed that the celebration was not only to appreciate nurses but also to draw attention to why Leadership in Nursing practices is essential and the need for increased investments in the nursing profession stating that leadership in nursing professions is not a title but additional responsibilities to enhance quality improvement in service delivery ." To be a leader per excellence, nurses must be ready to learn and build relationships with other professionals in the hospital" she said.

Samson, Founder and Managing Director of BOVAS Petroleum Resources Limited, on her well-deserved appointment as Chancellor of Osun State University by the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke.

In a congratulatory message issued, the CMD described Mrs. Samson as “an astute entrepreneur, philanthropist, and Nation-builder whose integrity, industry, and commitment to Excellence have distinguished her in Nigeria’s corporate and social landscape.” He noted that her appointment is a fitting recognition of her decades of impactful service, job creation and unwavering support for education, youth empowerment, and community development.
