WORLD AIDS DAY 2025

Theme: Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response

1st December 2025.

WHY THIS DAY MATTERS
World AIDS Day reminds us that the fight against HIV is not over.

It is a call to renew our commitment to prevention, treatment, support, and equality for all.

This year's World AIDS Day reflects major concerns: Which include, funding cuts, service disruptions, and rising vulnerabilities despite past progress.

WHO and UNAIDS are calling for sustained political leadership, international cooperation, and rights-centred approaches.

Current HIV / AIDS Statistics
As of end of 2024, about 40.8 million people are living with HIV.

In 2024, 1.3 million people acquired HIV globally.

630,000 deaths were due to HIV-related causes in 2024.

There is strong momentum in some areas (e.g., new science, long-acting treatments), but declines were not sufficient to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

KEY FOCUS AREAS FOR 2025
🔹 Strengthening HIV services after global disruptions
🔹 Expanding access to HIV testing & treatment
🔹 Promoting youth awareness & participation
🔹 Ending stigma and discrimination
🔹 Supporting community-led HIV programs
