Reading food labels is a simple step that can make a big difference to our health.

Today, the Centre for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI) joined stakeholders at the launch of NAFDAC’s ‘Read the Food Label Campaign,’ an important initiative aimed at empowering Nigerians to make informed food choices through better understanding of nutrition information on packaged foods.

As an organization committed to advancing healthier behaviours through strategic communication and social and behaviour change interventions, we commend NAFDAC for championing this timely campaign.

We believe that informed consumers are empowered consumers, and together, we can build a healthier Nigeria. One food label at a time.

This Democracy Day, we celebrate the strength of our unity, the power of our voices, and our shared commitment to Nigeria’s national vision of a nation where truth and justice shall reign.

Democracy is more than a system of government, it is central to our unity as a nation. Blessed with diversity of cultures, today reminds us that our greatest strength lies in standing together.

We call on everyone to rise above division, to uphold justice, and ‘to hand on to our children a banner without stain.’

💚🤍💚 Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria!

In commemoration of Salt Awareness Week 2026, the Centre for Communication and Social Impact, alongside other partners, supported a street awareness campaign to educate the public on the importance of reducing salt intake. The street campaign was led by the Network for Health Equity and Development (NHED).

The campaign, which took place across the Wuye and Utako axis in Abuja, engaged residents and passersby on the health risks associated with excessive salt consumption. Participants explained that while salt is essential for certain body functions, excessive intake over time can lead to serious health conditions such as high blood pressure, kidney disease, heart disease, and other Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

The team also educated the public on healthier alternatives to excessive salt and seasoning cube usage. In addition, they highlighted that large amounts of hidden salt are found in many commonly consumed foods such as bread, noodles, packaged and other processed foods.

Members of the public were encouraged to read food labels carefully before purchasing products and to consciously reduce the consumption of foods high in hidden salt.

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) remain a major public health challenge in Nigeria, and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare continues to advocate for increased public awareness to help Nigerians make healthier food choices.

Salt and seasoning cubes might make your food taste great, but is it worth the risk?

High salt intake is one of the leading causes of hypertension, heart disease, and stroke, and most of us consume far more than the recommended level (less than 5g) per day.

It's time to CARE ENOUGH about your health.

Reduce Your Salt Intake!

Don't self-diagnose, speak with a doctor for proper guidance on possible blood pressure challenges and overall health.

Have you spoken to your doctor about your salt intake?

Salt is essential for life. It helps our bodies maintain fluid balance, supports muscle movement, and keeps our nerves functioning properly. Without it, the body simply can’t work the way it should.

But here’s the truth 👉🏽 salt is not the enemy, too much of it is.

‼️ When consumed in excess over time, salt can increase the risk of serious health challenges like high blood pressure, heart disease, and kidney problems.

The key is balance.

Enjoy your meals, but be mindful of how much salt you add or consume, especially from processed foods.

A little salt keeps you healthy. Too much can harm you. Choose wisely.

Let your health guide your taste.
