The Management of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) received officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration in drug abuse treatment, rehabilitation, advocacy, technical support, clinical training, and capacity building for health personnel. The visit follows the establishment of a rehabilitation centre in the state.
According to the NDLEA delegation, the visit was to seek a partnership with OOUTH to provide technical expertise and structured clinical training for staff, thereby enhancing service delivery at the newly established facility. The centre operates a holistic model that integrates medical care with psychosocial support to promote recovery, reintegration, and long-term wellbeing of clients.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chief Medical Director of OOUTH, Dr. Oluwabunmi Fatungase, described the initiative as a significant step toward strengthening mental health and restoring sanity within communities. She reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to delivering quality, patient-centred healthcare and supporting collaborative efforts that advance substance abuse prevention, treatment, and social wellbeing.
In his remarks, the NDLEA Ogun State Commander, CN Tijani Rabe, explained that the agency runs hospital-based rehabilitation services where clients receive comprehensive medical and psychosocial care under one roof. This ensures a coordinated and effective approach to recovery and reintegration into society.
As a highlight of the visit, ACN Yusuf Sherifat, on behalf of the State Commander, decorated the Chief Medical Director with a Crest of Honour in recognition of her contributions and commitment to the fight against drug abuse and substance misuse.
