Have you ever wondered why you still function well even when you haven't eaten for hours???This is just because the body is using the stored glucose(glycogen)which is the main source of energy.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE GLUCOSE STORED IS MORE THAN ENOUGH??
When this happen,DIABETES occur.
Diabetes mellitus occur when there is too much sugar in the blood (high blood glucose). The pancreas produces insulin(an hormone that regulate the blood sugar by moving the blood sugar from the blood into the body cells to be stored or used for energy.
👉For every food we eat or drink, the body converts it to glucose and stores some for energy.
🌼Types of Diabetes
There are three common types which are;
1)Type 1 diabetes
2)Type 2
3) Gestational
*Type 1 diabetes otherwise called the insulin-dependent occurs when the immune system attacks and destroy the cells in the pancreas and as a result, the pancreas stops producing insulin.Without insulin, the glucose cannot get to the body cells it therefore accumulate and the blood glucose rises above normal
People with type1 diabetes require daily administration of insulin. The exact cause if this type of diabetes is unknown but one of the major risk factor is HEREDITARY.
*Type 2:It is non insulin dependent and the most common type.It occurs when the body cannot use insulin effectively.some of the risk factors are:overweight, physical inactivity, family history, Gestational diabetes, high blood sugar and high cholesterol.
*Gestational occurs during pregnancy as a result of hormonal changes and it goes away after delivery.however it can lead to type 2 diabetes later in the future.
💮 Symptoms of diabetes
-Excessive thirst
-Excessive hunger
-Excessive urination
-Fatique
-Blurred vision
-Sores that don't heal
-Persistent headache
🌺 Complications
-Heart attack
-Depression
-Loss of vision
-Foot damage
🏵️Prevention of Diabetes
*Maintain a healthy body weight👯
*Be physically active(exercise)
*Eat a healthy diet
*Quit smoking,etc

Let's continue from where we stopped on GENOTYPE AND BLOOD GROUP.
💜It is important to know your genotype in other to prevent compatibility issues which could have a devastating effects in conception.(i.e the sickle cell disease).
💙 GENOTYPE COMPATIBILITY
AA+AA=can marry
AA+AS=can marry
AS+AS=CANNOT MARRY
AA+SS=can marry
AS+SS=CANNOT MARRY
AA+AC=can marry
AS+AC=CANNOT MARRY
SS+SS=CANNOT MARRY
AC+SS=CANNOT MARRY
AC+AC=CANNOT MARRY

💝 CONCLUSION
The importance of knowing one's blood group and genotype before marriage cannot be over-emphasized.It helps to determine donor and recipient of blood transfusion and paternity.
----Do not allow "LOVE" to overshadow the future of your unborn children.Get to know your genotype early ant that of your partner..

Next week,we shall discuss RHESUS INCOMPATIBILITY AND VARIOUS MEDICAL EXAMINATION EVERY COUPLE NEEDS BEFORE MARRIAGE.

Just like I have said last week, today we shall be discussing an important and interesting topic which everyone need to be informed about and that is GENOTYPE AND BLOOD GROUP.

Hmmm, you have found this perfect person that you are completely in love with!👩‍❤️‍👩 But where is the guarantee that your children will be born healthy?Find out everything you need to know about genotype compatibility.
*Basic concepts
GENOTYPE:is the genetic constitution of an individual organism(sum total of all genes transmitted from parents to offspring).
BLOOD GROUP:it refers to any of the various classes into which human blood can be grouped according to the immunological compatibility (based on presence or absence of specific antigens on Red blood cells).
💚There are 4main types of genotype in human which are; AA,AS,AC,SS(AC and AS are abnormal genotype or sickle cells).AA are mostly prone to malaria at the early stages of their life.
WHAT IS SICKLE CELL???
Sickle cell is an inherited blood disorder which occurs when there is blockage in the blood vessels which prevent the normal flow of oxygen.
Sickle cell patients experience severe pains in the body parts with deficient flow of oxygen.Their bone marrow will fail to produce red blood cells and this can lead to anemia(lack of blood). The only solution for the cure of sickle cell is BMT(Bone marrow transplant). However, this procedure is very expensive and cannot be done in some part of Africa and it also has higher risks.
💛ABO BLOOD GROUP
There are 4 main blood groups; A,B,AB,O.(AB is rare and people with this blood type are universal recipient i.e they can collect blood from any of the blood types whereas O is the universal donor i.e can give blood to any blood type). Each blood group can either be RhD positive or RhD negative.
🧡IMPORTANCE OF KNOWING YOUR GENOTYPE
It is imperative to know your genotype before you say YES to that handsome guy or that beautiful lady💋whom you wish to spend the rest of your life with....To be continued...

***MALARIA***
Malaria is a common life threatening disease transmitted through the bite of an infected female anopheles mosquito (which carries the plasmodium parasite).There are four types of plasmodium parasite;
1) Plasmodium ovale
2) Plasmodium vivax
3) Plasmodium malariae
4) Plasmodium falciparum(most dangerous form).

HOW DOES MALARIA SPREAD???
Malaria cannot be spread through body contact with an infected person, but can sometimes be spread from a pregnant woman to the unborn child.
***When a mosquito bites a person who has malaria,it drinks the person blood which contain the parasite. When the mosquito proceeds to bite another person who was uninfected before,it inject the parasite into that person and begins to grow and develop causing the individual to fall sick***
Some of the symptoms noticed when one is infected include;
-High fever
-Headache
-Vomiting
-Profuse sweating
-Fatique (tiredness)
-Muscle pain
-Bloody stools,etc

Common ways of preventing malaria are;
*Clear the nearby bushes
*Sleeping under treated mosquito net
*Wear clothes that covers most of your exposed skin at night to reduce the risks of bite
*Spraying of insecticide
*Ensure there are no stagnant water around you so as not to give room for mosquitoes
*Get immunized if you have to travel to areas where malaria is very common.

is better than Cure,if you notice any of the symptoms, visit the nearby clinic for proper treatment, self medication isn't the best option.STAY GOOD AND HEALTHY.

Good afternoon everyone, our topic for today's Health talk is HYPERTENSION.

Hypertension is otherwise known as high blood pressure. It is a condition in which the force of blood against the wall of the artery is too high.It occurs when the blood pressure exceeds 140/90mmHg.
🌺The normal blood pressure is 120/80mmHg
🌺 Hypertension is also known as a SILENT KILLER.

🏵️CAUSES OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE:
There are two types of hypertension and each has a different cause

*Physical changes
*Environment
*Poor diet
*Lack of exercise
*Genes
This type of hypertension is the most common.
2) Secondary hypertension:it occurs quickly and it is more severe than primary hypertension.Several conditions such as kidney disease, congenital heart disease, use of illegal drugs, side effects of medication etc may cause a secondary hypertension.

Hello friends😎😎😎, tonight we will be discussing "Vital Organs in the body and the functions each of them perform"
Vital Organs are essential organs in the body needed for survival. We should note that if any of the organ stops functioning, death can occur.

There are five major vital organs in the body:Kidneys, liver, brain, heart and the lung.
❤️The heart which is located at the center of the chest keeps blood flowing throughout the body i.e pumps blood
💙The brain located in the head controls the body.it serve as seat of feelings, thought, emotions, intelligence, perception etc.
💚 Kidneys help to filter blood and form urine.(remove excess waste from the body)
🧡The liver secret bile which helps in digestion, produces protein for blood clotting and also helps to filter blood
💜Lungs help to exchange oxygen and carbondioxide (helps in breathing in and out.

Remember, health is wealth..Let's try as much as we can to stay healthy.
