Breastfeeding is a beautiful hormonal process between mother and baby.

1. Prolactin helps your body produce breast milk and is especially active during night feeds.

2. Oxytocin, the “love and let-down hormone,” helps release milk, promotes bonding and causes the uterus to contract after birth, helping it return toward its pre-pregnancy size.

3. Frequent breastfeeding can also delay ovulation and menstruation, although breastfeeding should not automatically be relied on as contraception.

4. Breastfeeding benefits mothers too, including lower risks of breast and ovarian cancers and other health benefits.

And remember, 6 months is not the end of breastfeeding. Complementary foods should begin around 6 months while breastfeeding continues. WHO recommends breastfeeding up to 2 years and beyond.

So, mama, if you and your baby are thriving:

Keep going. Your milk doesn't suddenly become “water” after 6 months.

Breastfeeding is nutrition, protection, recovery, hormones, bonding and love. All working together.

Support mothers.
Educate mothers.
Empower mothers.

A good latch means a happier mum and a well-fed baby
A painful latch is often a poor latch, not something you must endure.

As a nurse and midwife passionate about preventive health, I recently delivered a health talk on cancers affecting the female reproductive system; covering the warning signs, prevention strategies and why regular screening is so important.

Take 8 minutes to watch, learn and share cAMILY this with someone who could benefit from it. Early awareness can save lives.

That you Bethel Ferant for this beautiful video I will forever cherish this
