YOUNG PHARMACISTS BRIDGING LEADERSHIP AND PRACTICE GAPS IN AN EMERGING ECONOMY
The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria โ Young Pharmacists Group successfully hosted its Leadership & Business Summit on Saturday, 23rd May 2026, at Hangers Conference Hall, 91 Abak Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The summit brought together pharmacists, pharmacy students, professionals, and emerging leaders for a day of impactful discussions, leadership engagement, networking, and professional development. The programme was designed to address and bridge existing leadership and practice gaps within the pharmacy profession and the broader healthcare landscape.
The event featured distinguished speakers who delivered insightful and thought-provoking presentations.
Prof. Effiong Johnson of the department of Theatre, Film and Communication Studies, University of Uyo, delivered a presentation on the topic, โCommunication and Its Role in Bridging Leadership and Practice Gaps in an Emerging Economy.โ He emphasized the critical role of effective communication in fostering leadership, influence, collaboration, and sustainable professional growth within todayโs dynamic society.
The second speaker, Pharm. Akan David, the Chancellor of Akandavid Executive Institute of Public Speaking, delivered an engaging session titled โThe Power of Negotiation.โ His presentation highlighted the importance of strategic communication, confidence, value positioning, and negotiation skills as essential tools for personal, professional, and business advancement.
The final speaker, Pharm. Adigom Donatus, the Chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), Akwa Ibom State, spoke on โThe Evolving Roles of Community Pharmacists in Bridging Leadership and Practice Gaps.โ He stressed the expanding responsibilities of community pharmacists and underscored the need for innovation, leadership, and proactive engagement in healthcare delivery.
The summit was graced by notable dignitaries and special guests, including the PSN Chairman in Akwa Ibom State,Pharm. Nsikak Effiong, the Assistant Secretary of PSN in Akwa Ibom State, Pharm. Akanimo Essien, the Chairman of Christian Pharmacists in Akwa Ibom State, Pharm. Victor Anah.
Special appreciation is extended to the Head of Pharmacy in University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Dr. Ekpema Abasiattai, Vice Chairman of Nsit Ubium, Pharm. Udeme Inwang, and the Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Uyo, Prof. Grace Essien for their invaluable support and contributions toward the success of the summit.
