World Food Day 2025:
“Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future”
It was a warm October morning. The air smelled of roasted maize from the roadside and freshly baked bread from Mama Titi’s shop. Children hurried to school with their lunch packs, and farmers were already in their fields, tending to crops that would feed families far beyond their village.
As I watched this beautiful scene unfold, I thought about how food connects us all — how every grain, fruit, and meal carries a story of love, labour, and life itself.
Today is World Food Day, and this year’s theme — “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future” — reminds us that food is not just something we eat; it’s a bridge that binds communities, nourishes nations, and sustains generations.
🌾 The Story of Evangel
Evangel was a bright 9-year-old who always came to my clinic with her mother. Her eyes sparkled, but her body told a different story — she was underweight, often tired, and missed school frequently. Her mother sighed, saying, “We eat what we can find, not what we should.”
Together, we began a journey — teaching them how to create balanced meals from local foods: beans, millet, vegetables, and palm oil. We learned that good food doesn’t have to be expensive — just thoughtful.
Weeks turned into months, and soon Evangel returned, her cheeks fuller, her energy boundless. She proudly told me, “Aunty Dietitian, I can now outrun my friends!”
That moment reminded me that every shared meal is an act of hope — and when we eat right, we live right.
Food is a language that speaks without words.
From the farmer’s calloused hands to the dietitian’s gentle advice, from the mother’s kitchen pot to the child’s plate — we are all threads in the same fabric of nourishment.
When we waste less, share more, and support local farmers, we move closer to a world where no one sleeps hungry. When we work hand in hand — policymakers, dietitians, farmers, teachers, and families — we build not just healthier bodies but stronger communities.
As a dietitian, I stand for more than just meal plans and calories — I stand for education, empowerment, and equity in food.
I work daily to ensure people understand that food is medicine, food is culture, and food is our common future.
We teach families to eat smart, farmers to grow right, and communities to thrive together. Because only when every hand joins in — from the soil to the spoon — can we truly create a better food future.
So today, on this World Food Day 2025, let’s remember:
Food is not just a need — it’s a gift.
Let’s cherish it, share it, and protect it.
Let’s work hand in hand — for better food and a better future.
Because when we nourish one, we nourish all. 🌾🥦🍞
