How can a Product, X, be traced from the manufacturer to the end user?
Read on to learn how traceability works
Step 1: We give product X unique identifiers such as a GTIN (Global Trade Item Number), serial number, batch number, expiry date, and GS1-compliant barcodes. This distinguishes it from other products.
Step 2: We record the product's information within a traceability system such as AfriTrack.
Step 3: As Product X moves through the supply chain, information about its manufacturer, distributor, and retail points are recorded.
Step 4: Once the product's barcode or unique identifiers are scanned, information about the product can be verified, including who manufactured it, who distributed it, and where it has been at different stages of the supply chain.
This helps prevent counterfeiting and gives patients greater confidence that the medicines they receive are authentic and can be trusted.
The entire process is made easier with traceability systems like AfriTrack, which help businesses digitize, record, manage, and verify product information efficiently across the pharmaceutical supply chain.
