GIRLIES, BEFORE DECEMBER OBLEE, GO AND CHECK YOUR BODY, PLEASE 😭
So I did a few health tests recently, not all sha as I’m still dragging my feet to complete the rest. But while I was there, I just kept thinking. . . why do we treat health checkups like luxury spa days instead of basic maintenance?
We’ll do braids for 40k. Buy perfume for 60k. We spend money on nails, skincare and even eating outside every weekend. But the moment someone says “go and do a full body check-up,” we're like: “abeg healthcare is expensive jare.” And you’re right. It is expensive. But so is sickness. And stress. And medicine.
You can’t be planning detty December when you haven’t checked whether your liver is tired, your sugar is stable, or your hormones are rioting. You can’t be shouting “soft life only!” while ignoring the actual body carrying you through that soft life.
This is your sign that before December comes, before the braids and lashes, before you start spending money anyhow, pleaseeeee take out something small for your health.
Let’s stop waiting till something goes wrong. Go and know what’s happening inside your body.
Start with a General body checkup first.
These are the basics:
– Full Blood Count: tells you if you’re anemic or fighting infection.
– Blood Pressure: hypertension is silent, it doesn’t knock before it enters.
– Blood Sugar: because diabetes is not just for old people.
– Kidney & Liver Function: especially if you take painkillers often or drink alcohol.
– Cholesterol: check before you buy that next suya.
– Thyroid Function: if you’ve been tired, losing hair, or gaining/losing weight randomly.
Then also check the reproductive & sexual health part. This one is non-negotiable if you’re sexually active, even with one person.
Please get tested for:
– HIV, Hepatitis B & C, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia. (And yes, even if you trust your partner, faith is not a diagnostic tool, babes)
– Pap Smear / HPV Test (if you’re 21+, or younger with symptoms. You can also get the vaccine).
– Pelvic Scan if you’ve been having weird cramps, discharge, or cycle changes.
– Breast Exam / Ultrasound because breast cancer doesn’t ask for your age.
And while you’re there, talk to your doctor about contraception, hormone health or anything that’s been off lately.
Your Mental and Hormonal health counts too.
If you’ve been feeling unusually drained, sad, angry, or disconnected, that might be a signal. Ask about checking stress hormones, iron levels, and maybe talk to a therapist if you can.
– Also, get Dental check-up: because mouth infections can affect your whole body.
– Eye test: especially if you’re always on your phone, laptop, or ring light (I'm on this table).
You don’t have to do everything in one day. Just start. Do one test this week, another next month. Even if you just walk into a lab and say, “I want a general health test,” they’ll know what to do.
You owe it to yourself to not just look fine, but be fine. Let’s normalize being hot and healthy. Let’s make health care part of our “self-care.”
Because what’s the point of glowing outside if inside your body is quietly begging for help?
So yeah, before December o, please find small money, squeeze time, drag your girls along, and go for a thorough health check-up.
Let’s enter next year with clean test results, balanced hormones, and peace of mind.
Please share❤️
