Children aged 5 to 11 months who have received four doses of the RTS, S malaria vaccine are afforded protection against severe malaria. Significant reductions have been observed not only in overall hospital admissions but also specifically in instances of hospitalization due to malaria or severe anemia.
Furthermore, the administration of this vaccine decreases the necessity for blood transfusions, which are often required to treat life-threatening anemia associated with malaria.
