We live in a world that celebrates quick results.

But real expertise doesn't come from a weekend course, a certificate, or memorizing information.

It comes from years of observing, practicing, making mistakes, and continuing to learn.

In How to Make Life Simple, Happy and Successful: The Taoist Way, I reflect on how genuine understanding develops over time. Lasting growth comes from seeing patterns, gaining experience, and allowing wisdom to deepen through consistent practice.

Knowledge can be taught.

Wisdom must be lived.

What skill in your own life has taken years—not days—to truly develop?

Sometimes the most important decisions begin with a simple act of trust.

In How to Make Life Simple, Happy and Successful: The Taoist Way, I share the story of inviting someone I had only just met into my home. It wasn't an impulsive decision—it was one that challenged my assumptions and ultimately changed the direction of my life.

Growth often begins when we're willing to step beyond what feels familiar. Not every opportunity arrives with certainty, but some of life's greatest lessons come from remaining open to the unexpected.

That experience reminded me that wisdom isn't only about protecting ourselves. It's also about recognizing the moments that invite us to grow.

Have you ever made a decision that felt uncertain at the time but ended up changing your life for the better?

He Knew What Was Wrong Before I Said Anything"

Sometimes the people who change our lives don't give us the answers.

They help us see ourselves.

One experience described in How to Make Life Simple, Happy and Successful: The Taoist Way taught me that true understanding begins with observation. Before I had explained my situation, my teacher recognized patterns in my posture, behavior, and the way I carried myself. That moment changed how I understood personal growth.

Real wisdom isn't about making assumptions—it's about learning to see clearly.

When we become more aware of ourselves, we stop reacting to symptoms and begin addressing the real cause.

That is where lasting change begins.

Have you ever had someone understand you before you found the words yourself?

After Helping Thousands of People, I Kept Seeing the Same Pattern
Over the years, I had the privilege of helping thousands of people.
What surprised me wasn't how different their lives were.
It was how often the same underlying patterns appeared.
As I explain in my book, I watched people:
let go of destructive behaviours,
process unresolved issues from the past,
build self-confidence,
improve their relationships,
and discover a greater sense of happiness and balance. These changes weren't temporary—they changed the direction of people's lives.
Those experiences reinforced something I had learned through years of Taoist training:
People rarely need more information.
They need to recognize the patterns that keep them stuck.
When you change the pattern, lasting change becomes possible.

After spending five weeks learning from my Taoist teacher, he asked whether I wanted to continue studying the philosophy he possessed.
It was an opportunity I could not resist.
Moving to Thailand was not an option, so we created another arrangement. He would travel to the Netherlands, stay in my home for several months, return to Thailand when necessary, and come back when he could.
For the next seven years, he travelled between the Netherlands and Thailand to educate me in the secrets of Taoism.
During those years, I developed an incredible insight into body language and facial expressions. I learned to recognize the issues my clients were struggling with before they told me anything about them.
Your body language and facial expressions often reveal what your words do not.
Only then did I begin to understand what my teacher had seen in me during the workshop where we first met.
After several years of training, I realized this knowledge was too valuable to keep to myself. With my teacher’s permission, I began turning it into a professional holistic treatment based on the Taoist philosophy he had taught me.
Expertise is not created by attending one seminar or learning one technique.
It is developed through years of observation, discipline, practice, and application.

"The Body Carries What the Mind Avoids"

One of the greatest lessons I've learned is that the body often tells the truth before the mind is ready to.

Stress, tension, fatigue, and recurring physical patterns aren't always problems to fight—they can be messages inviting us to pay closer attention.

In How to Make Life Simple, Happy and Successful: The Taoist Way, I explore how greater self-awareness begins by observing ourselves honestly rather than simply treating the symptoms. When we learn to listen instead of resist, we often discover the real source of what we're experiencing.

Sometimes healing doesn't begin with doing more.

It begins with understanding more.

Have you ever noticed your body trying to tell you something before your mind caught up?

After a complete stranger described my life with astonishing accuracy, I couldn't stop wondering how he knew so much about me.
As I wrote in my book:
"Unbelievable that this strange old Asian man could see this by just watching me! This made me very curious on how he could see this and so I invited him to come home with me and tell me more. And so he did!"
At my home, he explained that he was a Taoist monk who had been invited to the seminar to help with a project in Thailand. During the seminar, he had noticed me and was convinced he needed to help me. At the time, I thought it was intuition. Little did I know.
We talked for hours. He helped me understand my childhood, my lack of self-worth, and even showed me that I wasn't stupid—I was dyslexic. He was already introducing me to the ancient Taoist philosophy, although I didn't realize it then.
He spent the next five weeks at my home. Looking back, I realize he was testing whether I had the discipline to learn what he could teach. At the end of those five weeks, he asked if I wanted to continue learning the Taoist philosophy with him.
That single decision—to invite a stranger into my home—became the beginning of a journey that changed the direction of my life forever.

In 1993, I was working as a financial interim manager. I made good money, but I wasn't happy with my work or my life. During one seminar, I noticed a small old Asian man who kept looking at me. I finally walked over to ask him why he was staring.
Before I could say anything, he apologized and told me he had noticed my unhappiness.
He said:
"You don't feel good enough."
When I asked how he could possibly know that, he replied:
"I can see this in your posture, you look like you are carrying the whole world on your shoulder, your eyes speak of sadness and your back hurts."
He continued:
"You never got the appreciation you deserve from people around you and this has affected your self-worth and self-confidence. This has caused you to lose yourself in the process. You have no idea who you are and what's your purpose in this life. Would you like to change this?"
I was stunned that a complete stranger could understand so much simply by observing me.
Looking back, that brief conversation changed the direction of my life.

From one small country to readers around the world.

When I first began studying Taoist philosophy, I never imagined my work would reach readers beyond the Netherlands.

What started as a personal search for understanding became years of studying, teaching, writing, and helping people see life through a different lens.

The principles in How to Make Life Simple, Happy and Successful: The Taoist Way aren't about making life perfect. They're about learning to see more clearly, respond more wisely, and create lasting change from within.

I'm grateful that these ideas continue to resonate with readers across different countries, cultures, and backgrounds.

No matter where we live, we all search for many of the same things: peace, clarity, purpose, and a simpler way to live.

Thank you for being part of that journey.

What If You're Wrong About Yourself?
For many years, I believed something about myself that wasn't true.
At school, I was very slow and had trouble keeping up with the pace of learning in my class.
"This always made me think I must be stupid."
Everything changed when I met my Taoist teacher.
He showed me the opposite.
He explained that I wasn't stupid—I was dyslexic. That realization changed how I saw myself and became the beginning of a completely different path in my life.
How many beliefs do we carry about ourselves that were formed years ago—but were never actually true?
Sometimes, one conversation...
One mentor...
Or one new perspective...
Can change the direction of your life forever.
Has someone ever helped you see yourself differently than you saw yourself?
