Nap gone wrong!!

Sometimes as parents we have a nap time plan or routine we want our little ones to stick too.

If your child has a shorter nap or a nap in the bike or pram that is fine.

Just ajust the next nap time if needed 15min earlier/ 30minutes depending how short the nap was or bring bedtime forward 30min. Try to get a good nap routine in the next day 👍

Should I just let them sleep?

Use these age guidelines to help you decide how long your little ones nap should be.... so you have a happy rested child.

Not enough sleep in the daytime or too much sleep in the day can affect night wakings.

Toddler bedtime stalling tactics... Read on how to make bedtimes easy!

Toddlers are busy little people. Watching them develop into talkative, mobile, creative and independent people is a fascinating time. You also see a lot of boundary-testing, which can be very visible at BEDTIME!!!

Sometimes your little one gets three or four stories a night, sometimes five, and then they usually ask for a glass of milk that they’ll only drink a few sips of, then they want to say goodnight in a very specific, drawn-out way. You know how it

Toddlers love to test boundaries, and they know that the one thing you want from them at bedtime is for them to go to sleep, so they’ll use it. It’s their way of seeing where your boundaries lie and how much authority they actually have.

So one night they ask for a glass of milk, and the parents think, “What’s the harm?” The next night, they ask for a glass of milk and an extra story. A week later, they want a glass of milk, an extra story, and three hugs and two goodnight kisses.
Little by little, these crazy bedtime routines get established, all according to what the toddler wants.

So there’s a simple, TWO step solution to this issue.

ESTABLISH A SHORT BEDTIME ROUTINE

NEVER DIVIATE FROM IT!

That’s it. It’s that simple. I won’t kid you, sticking to the rules can be a challenge, because they’re going to ask, test and complain, but if you stick to your guns, they’ll understand sooner rather than later that the bedtime routine is not up for debate.

This benefits both of you.Toddlers take a great amount of comfort in knowing that you, the parent, are firmly in charge and are confident in your decisions. It gives them a sense of security. If you start allowing them to make the decisions, they actually start to feel like they’re in charge, and that feeling that parents know what they are doing fades. A predictable routine also prepares the body for a good night's sleep! So good luck!

Elaine is extremely respectable Sleep Consultant. It was unfathomable for to think that 12 hours sleep a night was achievable for a 1-year-old that wouldn't sleep for more than 2-3 hours at a time. My daughter slept during the day ok, but during the night she didn’t slept more than 2 hours in a row. The challenging part during the night was that she didn’t want to fall asleep by herself and that she only wants her mum. Every night I tried to be the best mum for my daughter, but at one moment I was so tired I came to realized that this need to change. I started to work with Elaine when my daughter was 9 months old. Elaine coaching gives us step by step advices and she really listen to us. She know the difficulties we were facing and she support us to go through with our plan. The process was tough, but at the end I had a daughter that slept 9 hours in a row. And now when she wakes up at 4 am, she falls back to sleep by herself. My daughter is so much happier during the day and I’m so much calmer. It really makes a different in our family. The best thing what I learned from Elaine, its ok that your baby cried. My daughter had never been a good sleeper and I was skeptical she could ever be! Your baby will NEVER sleep through the night! That’s right, I said it and neither will you, for that matter.

-Adults wake up multiple times in the night. This isn’t due to stress, caffeine, lack of exercise. It’s a normal, natural part of the human sleep cycle.

-Simply put, when we fall asleep, we spend a little while in a light stage of sleep and gradually progress into a deeper one. This cycle takes 90-110minutes.

-Luckily for us the process repeats itself pretty easily. Either we’ll wake up for a minute or two and fall right back to sleep, or we might not even really break the surface at all. Ideally, this happens five or six times in a row. We get a restful, restorative snooze in the night, and we reap the benefits of it throughout the day.

But enough about us grown-ups. What about our little ones?

-Infants, despite their increased need for sleep, have a much shorter sleep cycle than adults. On average, an infant goes from light sleep to deep sleep and back again in an astounding 50 minutes. So whoever coined the term, “Sleep like a baby” was clearly misinformed.

-This is where the essential element of sleep training comes into play, my support doesn’t teach your child to stay asleep, or spend more time in any one stage of the sleep cycle.

-What I do is teach your baby to fall asleep independently initially, and when they wake up. I will be helping your baby to accept these wake-ups as a non-event.

-Once they’ve learned the skills they need to fall back to sleep on their own, they’ll wake up after a sleep cycle, their brain will signal them to go back to sleep, and that’s exactly what they’ll do.

-So although your little one is going to wake up numerous times a night, every night, they can quickly and easily learn the skills to get back to sleep on their own.

-It will only seem as though they’re sleeping straight through the night.
