Inscribed on the Temple of Apollo at Delphi are the words “Meden agan”, meaning nothing in excess. Centuries later, the Buddha taught the Middle Way, discovering that neither indulgence nor self-denial leads to freedom. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna echoes this wisdom, reminding us that yoga flourishes not through extremes, but through moderation in how we eat, sleep, work, rest, and move through the world.
The wisdom traditions may differ in language, but they point to a shared truth: balance is a practice. In yoga, we explore this through sthira sukham asanam: finding steadiness and ease together. Too much effort creates tension; too much ease leads to stagnation. The practice is finding the space between.
As summer arrives with its invitations to travel, celebrate, connect, and unwind, we invite you to explore your own middle way. What does balance look like for you right now? How might you cultivate it both on and off the mat?
