Today was an intense day.

My job, since February, is being responsible for 160+ Ukr displaced people, a small team of staff and being liaison with the municipality, social services, emergency response teams, schools, building facility management and the security team.

It’s demanding. But more so, it brings me fulfilment, joy and immense gratitude.

This week is a week of change; saying goodbye to two staff members and the security team (and welcoming a new team). It’s not about me, yet it’s weighing on me.

Luckily not all of them, but many decisions I am faced with have consequences. And I don’t take that lightly.

So how grateful am I, that after a long work day and 75min commute, I can go into my backyard for a walk and end the evening in full peacefulness on a swing. That is freedom. And freedom needs to be cherished each and every day. For me, for all those that are not free. 🤍

Hola family,

As I am in the process of putting these handcrafts from my teacher’s community onto Etsy, I also want to share the artwork here.

This is all handmade by members of the Wixárika Nation, also known as Wixáritari, Huichol and Huicholes. An indigenous people, living in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains in Mexico.

The artwork depicts traditional and sacred patterns, representing various elements and paths to provide fortune and support for those wearing the jewellery. It’s not only incredibly beautiful, it also serves a purpose!

With much humility and gratitude, I will be selling this artwork. All proceeds will go directly to my teacher & his community as I wish to honor their hours of labor creating this sacred art. Prices exclude shipping.

Reading through a magazine on new beginnings (), I came across this quote from Emy Spekschoor (researcher University of Humanistic Studies).

It speaks to be, just like Rumi’s poem The Guest House that I have been teaching for years to my Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction groups.

It’s been a time of change for me, and changes to change. I guess I thought it would be confined to the borders of the calendar year but it turns out the turmoil just continues and doesn’t listen to conventional time. 🙃

And as much as my personal situation is challenging and destabilising, I also realise that pushing certain pf those experiences away from this metaphorical table isn’t going to work.

Acceptance never stops. It arrives, it passes by, then it returns simply wearing another set of clothes or flashing a different hairdo. But there’s always more acceptance ahead…

“Brace yourself”

No, just kidding. Keep your table set abundantly. Offer each experience a place to sit. No need to brace. I think bracing yourself makes it harder. Messier. Certainly not easier. And this is just as much a note to self as perhaps a helpful reminder for you.

Because duh, I don’t for a second think I am alone in this. 🫂
