For Peter Brown, who lives with a spinal cord injury, these everyday tasks became possible after incorporating the ARC-EX® System into his rehabilitation program at neurokinex, which specializes in activity-based rehabilitation for people living with paralysis.

When it comes to helping people living with spinal cord injury regain hand movement and function, occupational therapists and physical therapists have more than one trick up their sleeves.

They are constantly thinking outside the box to enable people to live more independently. They actively support rehabilitation goals by combining in-depth knowledge of the body with years of real-world experience and creative activities.

For Cairo Smith, it’s not about what he can’t do – it’s about figuring out, little by little, how he can show up for the people he loves.

Cairo is an award-winning screenwriter, filmmaker, and storyteller who has been living with a spinal cord injury since his car accident in 2022. The latest guest on the Powering Through podcast tells host Jessie Owen about balancing career and relationships with a new reality.

“I think that you build the relationship you want with someone, and you show up every day and you care, and you try to do something you think might make their life a little better,” says Cairo.
