📑 Exercise cardiac MRI: new reference standards by age and s*x

A 2025 research article demonstrates how exercise-based cardiac MRI can enhance diagnostic sensitivity compared to pharmacological stress, without the need for drugs when exercise is feasible. This research was conducted with the Lode MR Ergometer.

Looking back on a successful ECSS 2026 in Lausanne!

We look back on an inspiring and valuable European College of Sport Science (ECSS) Congress 2026.

Throughout the congress, we had many valuable conversations with researchers, sports scientists, clinicians, and other professionals in the field. We connected with both existing and new contacts to discuss the latest developments in exercise diagnostics, sports science research, and clinical applications of ergometry.

At our booth, we gave several demonstrations, including the Excalibur Sport with Pedal Force Measurement (PFM). These demonstrations sparked engaging discussions on a wide range of research setups and practical applications.

In addition to showcasing our solutions, we supported existing customers with their questions and discussed ongoing and future research projects.

We would like to thank everyone who visited our booth, as well as our distributor, IGZ Instruments AG, for the pleasant collaboration throughout the congress.

What started as an internship has grown into an impressive 25-year career. Over the years, Gertjan has built extensive expertise in procurement, completed various professional training programmes, and made a significant contribution to Lode through his knowledge and experience.

⚽ As the world's best teams compete on football's biggest stage, sports scientists continue to explore new ways to optimize player performance.

A recent study examined the effects of adding Carminatti Test (TCAR)-based supramaximal running training to a regular preseason training program. The Carminatti Test is an intermittent fitness test specifically designed to assess aerobic endurance by evaluating an athlete's ability to perform repeated high-intensity running efforts, making it particularly relevant for the physiological demands of football.

To assess the effects of this training intervention, the researchers combined laboratory and field-based performance testing. Laboratory assessments included a Wingate test on the Lode Excalibur Sport cycle ergometer, followed by a recovery period and an incremental exercise test to determine physiological parameters such as VO₂max and lactate minimum speed. These measurements were complemented by the sport-specific TCAR field test to evaluate running performance.

The results showed that the additional TCAR test significantly improved:
✔ VO₂max
✔ Lactate minimum speed
✔ Sport-specific running performance (TCAR peak speed)..while maintaining sprint performance.

By combining laboratory precision with sport-specific field testing, the researchers gained valuable insights into how different training interventions influence athletic performance, helping coaches and sports scientists make more informed training decisions.
