🎵Салтанат хотела просто жить ❤️‍🩹
The story of Saltanat Nukenova, who was killed by her husband, former Kazakhstan Economy Minister Kuandyk Bishimbayev, deeply affected me and stayed with me for a long time.

Behind this horrifying story was more than a high-profile trial. There was a young woman. A woman who loved, dreamed, made plans for the future and, like every one of us, simply wanted to live.

That thought inspired me to write the song
“Saltanat Wanted just to Live.”

It is a song about domestic violence, a woman’s dignity, and the fear that too often remains hidden behind closed doors. But above all, it is about every person’s fundamental right to life, safety and freedom.

Saltanat’s story made thousands of people speak about something that had been kept silent for far too long. The changes to Kazakhstan’s legislation that followed showed how far one voice can reach when thousands of others join it.

May my song become one more small voice breaking that silence. 🕯️

Love should never hurt.
Love should never make you afraid.
And no one has the right to take away another person’s right to live.
