Een mooie volgende stap in family-centered geboortezorg bij Frisius MC

Frisius MC zet opnieuw een belangrijke stap: na de succesvolle introductie van de Concord Birth Trolley op de OK in 2023, is per 1 mei een tweede trolley in gebruik genomen op de verloskamers in Leeuwarden.

Bijzonder is dat dit gebeurt binnen een level 2 neonatologie setting, waar zorg wordt geboden vanaf 32 weken zwangerschapsduur. Daarmee laat Frisius MC zien dat de Concord Birth Flow breed toepasbaar is.

Dankzij de inzet en visie van o.a. Machteld Van Scherpenzeel- de Vries wordt deze manier van werken stap voor stap standaardzorg, zodat pasgeborenen, ook wanneer ondersteuning nodig is, dicht bij de moeder kunnen blijven vanaf het allereerste moment.

Een inspirerend voorbeeld van hoe samenwerking tussen gynaecologie, verloskunde en neonatologie het verschil maakt voor moeder en kind.

Dankzij de nieuwe Concord opvangtafel kan de navelstreng langer intact blijven na de geboorte. ‘Concord’ betekent letterlijk: aan de navelstreng. ✨

Door de baby nog even verbonden te laten met de placenta, krijgt het kindje langer zuurstof via de moeder. Zo kan de baby ondersteund worden bij het ademen, terwijl mama en het pasgeboren babytje gewoon dicht bij elkaar blijven. 💛

At Klinikum Traunstein, teams of midwives, nurses and doctors have worked together to implement the Concord Birth Flow to create a calmer, more gentle start for newborns through training and well-coordinated care.

As they describe it, this has led to “a reliable foundation for a modern, extremely safe and particularly gentle approach to birth care. For parents, it means their baby is supported in those first critical moments in a way that is calm, safe, and aligned with the baby’s natural transition."

Already, many newborns have benefited, entering the world more peacefully and at their own pace.

Grateful to highlight Evangelisches Krankenhaus Oberhausen as one of the early adopters of the Concord Birth Flow in Germany.

Since June 2023, the team has fully integrated Physiological-Based Cord Clamping into their standard of care, turning this new approach into everyday practice. A powerful example of how commitment, compassion and true teamwork can reshape the start of life, for newborns and their parents.

Less intervention. More connection. In Mönchengladbach, babies set the pace.

A recent article from Post highlights how clinicians at Städtische Kliniken Mönchengladbach - Elisabeth-Krankenhaus Rheydt are embracing Physiological-Based Cord Clamping to support a more natural transition at birth, enabled by the Concord Birth Trolley.

“We understand that newborns above all need calm and time. Often, less is more, and restraint is better than immediate intervention.” says Dr. Sabine Keiser, Head of the Children’s Clinic. “In the past, doctors and medical staff set the pace, today, it is the babies who lead.”

At this hospital, clinicians are seeing clear improvements in outcomes. In most cases, invasive ventilation is no longer necessary; if support is needed, respiratory support is usually sufficient. In addition, fewer blood transfusions are required, as blood pressure fluctuations in babies are reduced. There are also significant benefits for mothers including placental separation.
By enabling initial care with the cord intact, close to mom, clinicians are redefining the first minutes of life; less intervention, more connection.

Momentum is building for Physiological-Based Cord Clamping in Europe.

In December 2025, the teams at Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg successfully completed the implemention of the Concord Birth Flow and Trolley. It is inspiring to see how quickly this has become part of their clinical reality.

A special note of appreciation goes to Dr. Vincent Cassard from Grand Hôpital de Charleroi, who supported the hands-on training during the implementation phase. This kind of peer-to-peer exchange is what accelerates progress.

Experience is accumulating. Confidence is growing. Momentum is building.
As more centres take this step, the shift towards integrating into routine care is clearly accelerating.

Wonderful news from Norway 🇳🇴

This month, the team at Akershus universitetssykehus HF completed the implementation of the Concord Birth Flow, becoming the first Concord Community member in Norway.

Their commitment to giving babies a gentle and connected start in life is inspiring. As Hanne Nordli Holtmoen expresses so beautifully:
“We can now provide life-saving treatment to premature and sick newborns, while keeping them close to their parents, strengthening that essential early bond.”

Ein großer Schritt für Hamburgs Kleinste!

Am Altonaer Kinderkrankenhaus wurde mit Unterstützung der Stiftung Hamburg macht Kinder gesund e.V. unser Concord Birth Flow eingeführt. 💛

Die Worte von Mutter Ramona mit ihrem Baby Liam haben uns besonders bewegt:
"Als mir erklärt wurde, dass man wirklich die ganze Untersuchung direkt bei mir am Bett machen kann, war ich total gespannt. Jetzt im Nachgang bin ich unendlich dankbar, dass es die Möglichkeit gab.“

Diese Geschichte erinnert uns daran, was wirklich zählt: in den ersten, entscheidenden Minuten verbunden zu bleiben. Die Bindung zwischen Baby und Mutter ist von großer Bedeutung, und steht im Zentrum dessen, wofür Concord Neonatal existiert.

In December 2021, Dr. Hans Thorsten Körner first shared his experience implementing the Concord Birth Flow and the transition to Physiological-Based Cord Clamping ( ), during one of our first Concord Talks.

This amazing piece of equipment is our new Concord Neonatal Birth Trolley, which is being funded by our Newborns in Need Appeal. Amazingly, it lets mum and baby stay connected at birth, allowing for delayed cord clamping - which gives babies a huge head start in life. Delayed cord clamping, using this technology, can reduce the death rate of babies born under 28 weeks by a third!

Neonatal Consultant at Heartlands Hospital, Pinki Surana, said, “Concord Birth Trolley will allow us to aid the breathing of our preterm babies whilst they are still attached to the cord, which is so important to improve their survival and long-term developmental prospects. It also allows for mum to be with her baby in those very first moments rather than being whisked away for various procedures; this is so crucial for their bonding, promotion of breast-feeding and developmental care. We can’t thank Heartlands Hospital Charity enough for raising funds for such a vital, life-saving piece of equipment.”

A Spokesperson from Concord Neonatal, said: “Ten years from now, it will be hard to believe that parents and newborns were ever separated right after birth.
