Students, young professionals and athletes become ambassadors who can learn about worldwide water challenges and solutions. We aim to create awareness by an approach of local to global to local, where youth in their local communities access the platform and le

Say hello to the brilliant minds joining our education team, each one bringing a different corner of the world and a deep commitment to water action.

Sandra: physicist, former competitive swimmer, and hands-on STEM educator.

Tara: sustainability educator, WWF collaborator, and youth energy magnet.

Harry: international relations expert and connector of changemakers in The Hague.

Katrin: curriculum architect, PhD candidate, and water equity researcher.

Together, they’re here to design learning experiences that move young people from knowing to doing.

Following World Water Day guest lectures with Professor José Manuel Gil Márquez and students from the University of Málaga, we sat down to explore something bigger. What if we listened to children when reimagining water? 💧

Since joining the 1MAP Postcard Initiative, we have collected thousands of postcards from our guest lectures worldwide, showing the dreams and ideas children have about water. The pictures are more than art—they are voices, ideas, and hope.

The 1MAP (1 Million Postcard) Initiative was born out of the UN2023 Gamechanger Challenge by students at the University of Balamand in Lebanon.

We are proud to be part of this movement, one postcard at a time.

Because every drawing tells a story, and every story can spark change. 💙

Water is essential—but not guaranteed for all.

Happy World Water Day 💧

A global moment to recognise the importance of freshwater and advocate for the sustainable management of this vital resource.

On this occasion, several members of our global Wavemakers network will be delivering guest lectures on water—sharing their expertise and experiences across different contexts.

Today is also a reminder that access to safe water is not guaranteed for everyone, especially in times of crisis.

We are pleased to announce that on the first week of April Dr. Yasmine Jabali from the University of Balamand in Lebanon will be hosting an online masterclass on water in emergency settings. Despite the challenging situation in the Middle East and the ongoing impacts of conflict, this session will focus on exchanging knowledge and experiences, fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration across sectors, and engaging professionals working in the water field.

It reinforces our collective commitment to ensuring safe and sustainable water access for all—even in times of crisis.

💧 Kicking off our World Water Day campaign!

Our Innovation Manager, Meinke van Oenen, gave an inspiring guest lecture to students in Enschede 🇳🇱 diving into her work on SDG6 and raising awareness about water pollution (SDG14).

What stood out? Many students didn’t yet realise the challenges around water quality in the Netherlands.

And this is just the beginning… more lectures coming this week!

Our goal: reach 1 million youngsters with water education by 2030 🌍

Youth Interactive Days – Dakar 2026
 
Upcoming week the official Preparatory Conference for the 2026 water conference takes place in Dakar, Senegal and represents Wavemakers United this week during the .
 
The Youth Interactive Days serve as preparation for the high-level meetings, aiming to align youth voices around SDG6 and prepare participants collectively for active participation in the , co-organized by Senegal and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
 
Yesterday we participated in the Water & Piece workshop. We all shared practical tools to influence decision-making, develop joint proposals and key messages, and thematic exchanges on water and peace throughout the conference. We also reviewed the Youth Water Strategy among other topics.

For me, 2026 is a very special and emotional year. It is a year of working with a new generation of leaders and academics from around the world and the year I step down as Director, passing Wavemakers United to the next generation. As we celebrate 10 years, it feels like the right moment to hand over the baton.
