VI. TIP OF THE DAY- 7 REASONS WHY YOU WANT TO TAKE LEMON WATER IN THE MORNING.

The way you start each day is incredibly important.

Whether you're a mom, a coach, a writer, a small business owner or a yoga teacher, what you do first thing in the morning matters.

According to Ayurvedic philosophy, choices that you make regarding your daily routine either build up resistance to disease or tear it down.

Ayurveda invites us to get a jump-start on the day by focusing on morning rituals that work to align the body with nature's rhythms, balance the doshas & foster self-esteem alongside self-discipline.

Your mind may say you have to check emails, take the dog out, get the kids out the door, that you can't be late for work or that you just don't have enough time to cultivate your own morning rituals.

But, if you can only make time for one ritual that will improve your health, let it be this.....

Start the day out with a mug of warm water and the juice of half a lemon.

It's so simple and the benefits are just too good to ignore. Warm water with lemon:

1. Boosts you're immune system
Lemons are high in Vitamin C and potassium. Vitamin C is great for fighting colds and potassium stimulates brain & nerve function and helps control blood pressure.

2. Balances pH
Lemons are an incredibly alkaline food, believe it or not. Yes, they are acidic on their own, but inside our bodies they're alkaline (the citric acid does not create acidity in the body once metabolized). As you wellness warriors know, an alkaline body is really the key to good health.

3. Helps with weight loss
Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings. It also has been shown that people who maintain a more alkaline diet lose weight faster. And, my experience is that when I start the day off right, it's easier to make the best choices for myself the rest of the day.

4. Aids digestion
The warm water serves to stimulate the gastrointestinal tract and peristalsis—the waves of muscle contractions within the intestinal walls that keep things moving. Lemons and limes are also high in minerals and vitamins and help loosen ama, or toxins, in the digestive tract.

5. Acts as a gentle, natural diuretic
Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted materials because lemons increase the rate of urination in the body. Toxins are, therefore, released at a faster rate which helps keep your urinary tract healthy.

6. Clears skin
The vitamin C helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes. Lemon water purges toxins from the blood which helps keep skin clear as well.

7. Hydrates the lymph system
This cup of goodness helps start the day on a hydrated note, which helps prevent dehydration (obviously) and adrenal fatigue. When your body is dehydrated, or deeply dehydrated (adrenal fatigue) it can't perform all of it's proper functions, which leads to toxic buildup, stress, constipation, and the list goes on. Your adrenals happen to be two small glands that sit on top of your kidneys, and along with your thyroid, create energy. They also secrete important hormones, including aldosterone. Aldosterone is a hormone secreted by your adrenals that regulates water levels and the concentration of minerals, like sodium, in your body, helping you stay hydrated. Your adrenals are also responsible for regulating your stress response. So, the bottom line is that you really don't want to mess with a deep state of dehydration!


Adopting just this one practice of drinking a cup of warm water with lemon in the morning for a month can radically alter your experience of the day. Don't be surprised if you begin to view mornings in a new light.

V. TIP OF THE DAY- 9 SURPRISING USES OF HONEY.

1. Relieve Hangovers. Had a little too much fun last night? A few tablespoons of honey, which is packed with fructose, will help speed up your body’s metabolism of alcohol.

2. Heal Wounds, Cuts, Scrapes & Burns. Don’t reach for the Neosporin the next time you cut or burn yourself — simply apply honey to the affected area. Honey works as a natural antiseptic.

3. Soothe Sore Throats and Coughs. Combine honey with the juice of one lemon and drink. It works like a wonder!

4. Remove Parasites. Hopefully you’ll never have to use this trick, but if you do, combine equal parts honey, vinegar and water and drink. The combination of these three ingredients is the perfect parasite killer.

5. Moisturize Dry Skin. Honey is a fantastic moisturizer, especially on dry patches, like your elbows or hands — even your lips! Rub onto your dry, patchy skin and let it sit for about 30 minutes before washing off. Honey also makes a great lip balm!

6. Condition Damaged Hair. Honey is a great natural conditioner. You can simply add a teaspoon of the stuff to your regular shampoo to smooth your damaged locks. You can also combine it with olive oil for a deeper conditioning. Let it soak for 20 minutes with your hair wrapped in a towel before shampooing as usual.

7. Have an Amazing Bath. Relax your body and soak your skin in a soothing bath. Add 2 tablespoons of honey to 1 cup of hot water and let it dissolve for about 10 minutes. Add 2 or 3 drops of lavender essential oil and add it to your bath.

8. Remove Acne. Stubborn acne can really benefit from a small daily dab of honey. Place a band-aid over the pimple, and take it off 30 minutes later.

9. Give Yourself a Facial. Combine 2 teaspoons of milk with 2 tablespoons of honey. Cover your face with the mixture and let it sit for 10 minutes before washing off.

V. 3 SIMPLE WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR TEETH.

Sweets, soda and fruit juices can really do a number on your teeth’s enamel. And it’s not just processed, unhealthy foods, either; citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruit can also eat away at enamel. Over time, eroded enamel can cause pain and sensitivity in your teeth form hot, cold and sweet foods and can contribute to yellowing. Short of avoiding enamel-eroding foods all together, there are a few things on top of your regular dental care routine that you can do to prevent enamel erosion.

1. Don’t Brush Your Teeth.. For at least 1 hour after you’ve had acidic foods, at least! Right after you’ve eaten an acidic food, your enamel is at its softest. Brushing right away will actually help further the erosion.

2. Use a Straw. If your soft spot is sugary sodas and fruit juices, try to drink them with a straw as much as possible, or at least swallow the beverage as quickly as possible. When it comes down to it, the less exposure your teeth have to acids, the better. You can also swish a little water after you’ve had your fix.

3. Get a New Toothbrush. Soft bristles are your best bet. And, even with a soft brush, don’t brush too vigorously.

IV. TIP OF THE DAY- NATURAL REMEDIES FOR UNDER-EYE BAGS AND CIRCLES

“You look tired…” Ah. Those dreaded three words. Thanks to the lovely dark circles and bags that appear for a laundry list of reasons; heredity, water retention, allergies, toxins, hormones, etc., at times we don’t seem as alert and vibrant as we’d like. Try the natural solutions below and you’ll be struttin’ around, wide-awake before you know it.

Prevention

• A healthy well balanced diet is key but there’s new info that says eating two kiwis a day in yogurt can help to eliminate bags.

• Plenty of H20. Drinking water helps flush the toxins from your body as well as reduce water retention. Try restricting caffeine as this can also bloat you.

• No more salt. This is such a simple little tip with big results. Try limiting salt for a week and notice the difference.

Nautral Remedies

• Place cotton balls soaked in milk under your eyes for a few minutes. The lactic acid in the milk helps reduce puffiness and darkness.

• Take protective eye wear or swim goggles; fill with water and freeze. Place on eyes for five minutes.

• Freeze a couple of spoons over night. In the morning rest them on your eyes until they are not cold any longer. If you make an effort to do this every morning you will see a big difference in about two weeks.

• Slice one small piece off of a potato, and cut the slice in half. Put each slice under your eyes and leave them under your eyes for 20 minutes.

• Place two thin lemon slices directly onto your bags or circles. Don’t squeeze your eyes tightly but be careful not to open. After 20 minutes carefully rinse off with cold water.

• Soak two cucumbers in lemon juice for 3-5 minutes. To help get rid of dark circles and puffiness place cucumbers on your eyes for about 10-15 minutes.

III TIP OF THE DAY- THE MAGIC OF ALOE VERA & A GREAT ALOE-HONEY FACIAL MASK RECIPE.

Aloe-Honey Facial Mask

Aloe Vera gel (fresh is better but bottled is good too)
and honey
Combine equal quantities and enough of both ingredients until you have good coverage over your entire face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes (or even longer if you can!) then rinse off with warm water. You do not need to cleanse before using this mask or even moisturize after unless your skin needs it. My skin is quite dry so I still moisturize.
This has to be one of the simplest yet most powerful facial treatment masks I can think of. Aloe vera is a natural anti-inflammatory so does an amazing job at soothing any redness and irritation in the skin. It also contains (and this is kind of kooky) a natural salicylic acid so applying it topically to the skin means you’re getting a bit of deep pore exfoliation. I wish all of those people out there using aspirin internally or topically (crushed up and mixed with something binding) to reduce the redness and inflammation and deep pore exfoliate their skin knew about the magic of aloe vera. Really, aloe vera is a much more pleasant and beautiful raw material to use on the skin and internally than synthetic aspirin.
