For most of my life I remember when seeing a spider nearby I'd panic. One time I almost caused an accident with the car because one was crawling in front of me on the window. My partner almost caused an accident because of me climbing from the front seat towards the back but not really watching if I was hindering him whilst driving.
There was always something that would snap and I'd completely loose my sense of what else is around.
It was always a mixture of disgust and panic. Nothing else could make me jump that fast. I could never get close to them unless they were really tiny let alone pick them up with a glass.
I just couldn't stand looking at them through the glass crawling along the inside.
In all my years of working with my own stress physiology a lot has shifted. The spider thing never did and I didn't expect it to. I didn't specifically work on that.
Yesterday one of those big black ones was sitting in the corner of the bathroom. They were having a little party whilst we were on holiday. We found three more. I just took a glass, a piece of paper and threw it out.
And that's when my partner noticed and said: 'That's new'. Because it is new, it is something that I'd never imagined doing. And whilst that might not be the biggest fear or phobia someone can have it did cause stress and almost accidents.
The cool thing is that I wasn't working on this specifically.
I continually support my nervous system and stress physiology and because this is at the root of many seemingly unrelated things a spider phobia can disappear as well as anxiety, pain, the feeling of abandonment, IBS or fybromyalgia.
Is there something that has shifted for you that you never thought would?
