Radio Medico Norway provides medical advice to seafarers. Every year we have approximately 2700 contacts with ships that we assist. The service provided is available 24/7, and offers medical advice and telemedical services in English and Norwegian. The advices provided ranges from medical emergencies, general practice and specialist care to guidance on occupational matters. The calls come from all
corners of the world, but the majority comes from Norwegian ships and merchant navy officers or vessels in Norwegian territorial waters. Radio Medico Norway is a public service free of charge and integrated with the services provided by the Norwegian Rescue Coordination Centers. Contact is made through the Norwegian Costal Radio operated by Telenor Maritime. Currently there are 5 doctors associated with the service, and the doctor stays on duty for a week at the time. Non-emergencies like questions related to general practice and occupational health, are preferably answered during daytime, Norwegian time. RMN is the official Norwegian Maritime Telemedical assistance service and a part of Norwegian Centre for Maritime Medicine which is the Norwegian center of excellence in maritime medicine.
